Went to figure out and mock up my alternator setup today.. I tried to through a few bolts in my headers and realized that the flange is hitting the head studs. Is this a common problem, i need to get the header probably 1/8" to 1/4" lower to get things to line up. THis could be easily fixed by notching out alittle bit of the flange.
My headers are Bassett non twisty and probably 10+ years old, heads are 990's, arp head studs...

This is common. Grind the header flange in the areas of interference for proper clearence. It wont hurt a thing. I have seen this many times.

Same here, I ran my setup that way for about 15 years without any problem.

Can't you just grind the heads of the head bolts off???
That will ensure there is no interference.:D

Agreed, common age old problem. Grind the flanges.

......Grind the flanges, or measure how much the studs protrude past the nut and turn off the excess.

thanks, i don't need to grind away much and thats what i planned on doing to make them fit, was just wondering if this was a common problem. Sounds like it is..

Shaun, get the headers on and mark them with a marker. Then gring a small "U" and you will be fine. My basset straights cleared but my twisties did the same thing as your did. You will be fine bud ;)

I did this and still had to grind the flanges.
