a chute jacket is a pfd that has the majority of the flotation material located in the front of the vest to float u in a face up position if thrown from the boat---the "chute" is a small parachute attached to the pfd which in theory will deploy and slow your forward motion before entering the water--theory being that any deacleration will be benefitial before hitting water--it also has leg cuffs attached to help in keeping it attached to your torso--note: required by ihba if you have a prop boat running faster than 11 sec.---there are several companys making these, most everyone uses ones made by lifeline

In addition, The chute is suppose to spin you around and make it more of a feet first entry into the water. Instead of head first and snapping your neck. They have worked...

Yup, pretty much what they said.
Here's a pic of mine. The static line comming off the chute gets attached to the boat.
So far I have never had to use mine.

Thanks for the info guys!
So the chute jacket was the state of the art safety device prior to the capsule, looks like a quantum leap in terms of safety for the driver!
I saw a picture on one of the websites that showed a driver sitting with his knees up on the seat so that he could bale out if the baot got
outa shape! That's just crazy!!

Riptide, just send it in to Lifeline Its about $90 or so. If you wait till right before the race season you may not get it back in time.
