I see many of you have 'socks' covering the end of your OT headers. Did you have them custom made, or can I purchase them somewhere ? Vinyl, pleather, or ???

You can get them at Bassett, Rewarder, or any of the HB marine supply houses, like Rex, CP, Eddie, Dana.

Thanks ! Is 'sock' the proper term ? It was my best guess.

I think those are the typical covers by Bassett. You'll come to learn there isn't a lot of variety to this stuff.

Except if you have the Trumpet or Bell ends that flare out on the ends. I don't know the correct term for them. Then you need different covers.

I got a set of those Bassett covers a few months ago. Towed the boat at 75-80 MPH even, with no problems....

Sometimes I suffer from severe brain fade after 13 or 14 hours @ work. I had a pair 'till I fired up with them on, didn't look back, and lost 'em. I get home, and I'm like,"Where are my botties?" took me a while to figure that one out. Devilman. I too, tow @ 80. Why not wreck both at once? Just think of the gas you'll save by not boating all weekend! :rollside:

Add 1 camper and you have my buddy Tony. `97 Standard cab 4X4 (5" lift), `00 8.5' Alpinlite camper, `03 20' ThunderJet at 85-90 mph UP I-90 with the Pyro touching 1500* racing a Dodge Cummin's, no b&lls no glory I guess.

I've personally seen these things fly off at hwy speeds. (not mine) :rollside:
So I use a thick/wide rubber bands, one each side...and keep several with me. No lost socks, no worries.
Seriously, when you lose one you'll wish ya used the rubber band idea ;)

Just wondering
What is the purpose of the covers?

I just stick an old rag in the headers. I've lost 3 sets of the socks.

I would say just to keep stuff from getting up in them, mainly when parked or being stored. :rollside:

Just spend $5.00 on a nurf football cut in half and stick in headers, this will keep the shit out while towing boat. (Rivertard)

I think they're just supposed to look cool in the parking lots, and during the tow. But...as we all know, none of us on this board are out to look cool are we?
Hey, where's my credit card? :rollside:

The proper term is "collector condom" and they are made of naugahyde. Since nauga animals are quite small, it takes usually about 6 or 7 of their hides to make just one condom. They have been hunted to near extinction and are expected to be on the next protected species list. If you get them now, then you will have them, but you will have hastened their extinction. Can you live with that? Those of you that have "lost" your condoms and have had to trailer "bareback" are contributing to unsafe trailering and are at risk for many boating-related diseases. Not the least of which is lack of speed induced "Horsepoweritis". This is not just a disease of the Ford community,(although Spammin Thunder has contracted this malady), it can affect anyone at any time. Do you really want to bring this little "gift" home to your wife? Consider your actions!!!!!! :crossx: TIMINATOR

Go to an interior shop & have then cut you some 4"od by at least 4" long foam plugs to stick into the end of the headers.

I just bought 2 small/medium nerf balls. Squish them and push them in no way there gonna fall out and they even work with baffles installed.

Nerfs are close to being endangered, the more you shoot, the quicker it will happen..... Oh, I forgot, I am restricted to posting in the forums with the "sense-of-humor" logo. I go now......... TIMINATOR
