Looking to take my lady away to Catalina for the weekend. We've never been and was hoping someone could recommend a great place to stay. We'd be open to either a hotel or bed and breakfast, as long as it's clean and nice. Are there good places to shop? Any other recommendations for a fun weekend there are appreciated. Thanks.

Funny story about that....When Mandelon and I went to Catalina w/ the Lavey guys, we were in his 21' XTSki (walk through openbow)....we got our bouy assignment and were up near the beach. As we were going through the boats we passed a decent size cruiser with a strong smell of bacon coming from it. The lady was on the back eating breakfast. As we putted by, we commented that it smelled good (with a smile and wave).....her reply: "If you had a real boat, you could make breakfast too."... Bitch! :D :D

Just got back this week from 3 days at Inn at Mt Ada (the old Wrigley Mansion). Unbelievable luxury, bed, breakfast, happy hour, open bar, open kitchen and a golf cart included with each room (that saves $40.00 hour downtown). We do it annually, its fabulous. Can't say more...

Do you have their number or the website? What did the place run per night?

Ya, nobody likes the little go fasts over there. I can hardly get the shore boat to pick me up. They think it is a waste of a mooring.....

FreshT, someone already got you the numbers you need, there are 6 rooms, each has its own price. I think they have a policy that if you go on a weekend you have to take Fri/Sat. Also, spring for the extra $10.00 and take the Commadore Lounge on the Catalina Express; better seats and coctails served...
PS, for you speed demons, I once held the round trip record in the Catalina Ski Race pulling Chuck Stearns with a 32 Spectra, and the one way trip to Catalina with a 21 Schiada pulling Gary Tomlin. This week the Pacific glassed over like I've never seen it, todays skiers would have broken any boat they would have skied behind...

Damn this brings back some memories.
If you want a little different experience try the west end over at Two Harbors. I lived there for 9 months in 1988. It was a learning experience.:D
Visits from MMSW where pretty good also. We have been saying how fun it would be to go back. I guess next summer will be a must do.
Its a far cry from Avalon as far as I remember.

There are tons of stores to shop at. Great restaurants and food. If you go on the weekend the bars are a lot of fun to in Avalon. You can pretty much walk anywhere you need to go. If you want to go exploring you can rent a scooter or a golf cart. If you scuba dive the Casino point is a great beginner to intermediate place to dive.
I have stayed at a couple places there and would not recommend them. I can't even remember the names??? Still had a great time each time I went.

Viewing those photos, in that flat condition I can see why you were able to do that. Was out there Memorial weekend and came back Saturday afternoon in our 27' Advantage. Condition were soooooo bad took four shots over the bow. We laugh about it now was not funny then.

That period is a little fuzzy in my brain. It vegly rings a bell. I have forgoten most of the names of people, it was kinda like a hippy flash back living there in the "Lab".
I remember a guy named Ya Mo (sp) from san Pedro that I used to party with fairly regular. He worked the rental shop so I would trade him the out of date products from the store for jet ski and scuba gear rental. The best times where water sking behind the "Salad Bowl"( Trash Boat) Taking a jet ski around the island may sound like a good Idea when you are 18 but I can assure you its not.:D
Damn wrong user name again... SW

He worked the bar and did bow hunts. We used to go over there in the Fountain and beach it by his little casita house on the W side. He had a stuffed bear in there! Classic times. :D

everytime we go we stay at some bright pink place at the top of beale st, I think....I believe its the Hotel St. Lauren, not right on the water but affordable and everything is a whopping 5 minute walk from the beach. The Blue Parrot is a cool place to eat, or Antonio's pizzaria...get a bucket of beer and a bucket of shrimp...Go to Luau Larry's and get a Wiki Whacker...Damn I need to get back:(
