There was an OUI saturation patrol on Saturday afternoon/evening. Game and Fish had 4 boats out and we had our usual 2. Instead of doing checkpoints at Marinas, like on Havasu, Mead, Mohave, Pleasant, etc., we employ the "Wolf-Pack" method of OUI interdiction.
Check-Points are impractical in areas like the Strip, due to the number of launch ramps and lack of a central launch point. In operations like this we only stop with probable cause, not stopping everyone like check points. That way, people being safe and legal aren't inconvenienced.
I wouldn't say we were busting people left and right. We arrested only 2 people for OUI. One was a .113% BAC and the other .178%. I can't speak for how many tickets G & F wrote, but we wrote about the same as any other Saturday.

We were out at Buckskin Friday to Sunday and really didn't see a large number of patrol boats. We did see one towing the other once and maybe 3 or 4 other times and we were on the river most of our weekend. We looked a little harder after seeing the warning but thought maybe they had canceled. What ever and however they did it THANKS for a good time and keeping the place safe.

Are you talking about the younger guy or the old chunky guy? The younger guy is definitely a dick. The older guy is John and he is WAY cool. He's helped us out big time on several occasions.

Seems the cops on the strip have been very visible this season and I like it. It makes me feel ever so slightly safer.
Don't drink and drive and you shouldn't have anything to worry about if you get stopped. ;)

We did see one late at night writing a ticket, La Paz County as he headed in after the stop.
Don't drink and boat and you don't have to worry. Heck..stop us and we will drive your boat for you..

What will some one be charged with if they refuse to take a breathalyzer test? What are the penalties for that charge?

Refusal is a separate civil violation that carries a $750 dollar fine. Along with a $500 State surcharge for Prison construction, a $500 surcharge for DPS Safety Equipment and various other statutory surcharges, the fine comes to about $2,800-$3,000.
The civil fine is imposed no matter what the outcome of the case is. Under State Law, a person is required to submit to a test or tests of OUR choosing if arrested for suspicion of OUI. Even if found "not guilty", the fact that they refused is enough for the court to impose the fine.
And after they refuse we get a search warrant and take blood anyway.

Last thanksgiving we were there with lake lice and as we approached the Casino along with the no wake bouy's we saw No PWC also. So we are at Buckskin again this last weekend and mention it to other PWCer's they said never heard about it they were down there earlier today. So we head on down there the following morning and one of the 3 or 4 buoy's has NO PWC on it. So we stayed out. Whats the deal?

Somebody was screwing around and painted "NO PWC" on them.
The Indians are supposed to maintain those buoys, but do a piss-poor job of it. They actually aren't even "official" buoys, since they aren't marked in accordance with the Uniform State Waterway Marking System.

That's one of the reasons we don't go down there. We can't enforce "No Wake" laws if the area isn't properly marked.

From what I hear you can hyperventilate your self before a breathalyzer test and have less of a alcohol %. Does saliva passing through effect how the breathalyzer functions?

Hyperventilating does nothing on certified machines. They are designed to take the reading after a certain amount of time has passed while there is a continuous breath. This results in obtaining the recorded sample from what's called "deep lung" breath. This "deep lung" breath is the most accurate measure of the actual blood alcohol concentration.
Controlled comparisons of breath tests and blood tests confirm this.
If the person cannot blow long enough to ensure a proper sample is obtained, it will record the test as an "error". If it appears that the person is purposely trying to "fool" the machine by not blowing properly, it will be recorded as a refusal, and appropriate penalties will be imposed.
If it's due to a physical or medical condition like asthma or emphysema, we'll just take a blood sample. Doesn't matter one way or another to us. Defense attorneys have all kinds of "experts" that try to discredit breath test instruments. We prefer blood anyway. Blood test results can't be refuted when done properly by a trained phlebotimist. (We have several Officers trained, and always have at least 1 on call)
A lot of times we just take blood and not even bother with the breath test. Or we do both, just as a back-up.
I always get a laugh out of these defense attorneys who tell their clients how to get out of a DUI. The best advice is to just drive sober.
But they don't tell their clients this. They need to make the next Mercedes payment, and sober clients won't help them do that.
Oh... and as far as spitting into the instrument, the mouthpieces are designed to prevent that from occurring.

Alen that reminds me of something. Why is there such a long no wake zone coming out of the Blue Water Casino marina heading up river. I will adimit I goofed and got on plane just after the marina island. Thank God I was flaged down by a fellow boater to tell me I was still in a no wake zone. A little excesive IMO.

When they applied for the permit to dig out and construct the Marina it triggered an Environmental Impact Survey. Actually, it just moved it up, since one was planned anyway a few years later.
The Marsh across from the Casino was found to be a habitat for several endangered native fish and an endangered bird, the Yuma Clapper Rail. The birds build their nests on the surface of the water in the reeds, and can tolerate only so much disturbance from wakes and rough water before abandoning the nest.
The No Wake Zone would have been imposed on the area even if the Casino/Marina was never built, since the endangered species would have eventually been discovered there.
The Army Corps of Engineers, Coast Guard, US Fish and Wildlife and other entities required that the No Wake Zone be established.
