Going to Lake Powell the second week of July. We rented 3 house boats I was wondering if anyone knew some good sandy beaches around the Antelope marina area. Any info. on beaches or ski areas around that area would be helpful. I have not been there in 4 years. Thanks.

I would send Titties and Beer or Mardonzi a pm... they both live there and probably best know what the current conditions are.
Getting my post count up! haha

Go up from Antelope Point into Warm Creek bay. We were just up there this past weekend. Lots of sandy beaches there.

You should do your best to stay away from Lake Powell. It is a terrible place and there is nothing worth seeing there! No sandy beaches anywhere! Do your best to avoid this terrible place... ;) ;) ;) ;) :D

Does anyone know about how long it would take to travel to warm creek bay from antelope marina by house boat. Just trying to get an Idea. As far as lake Powell being Yuck !!!! I may have been born at night but it wasn't last night so say no to crack. Just having fun no place is fun with too many people.

He was just kidding.
I would guess it would take a few hours cruising slow. At $4 per gallon, you don't want to have the thing WOT.

If your leaving from Antelope Marina, it wont take long. As soon as you take the first left in the channel, Warm Creek is dead ahead, past the main channel.

There aren't any ramps open at Powell................you have to launch on Mead and head up river. If you do make it all the way to Powell do yourself a favor and find a beach up lake from Dangling Rope. It's a whole different world up there.

I go to Lake Powell a few times a week... Courtesy of Google Earth:D . I see plenty of deserted sand beaches.
Some day I'll really get there.

We were there in may the water was coming up fast sdo not sure were the beaches still are, but there were some real nice beaches in Padre which gets you totally out of the nasty washing amchine water they call the narrows. Warm creek will get you most of the out of them but you'll still have to fight a little every time you go uplake.

Warm Creed has lots of sandy beaches and is very close, however, it's real flat and if the wind comes up it can be rough with blowing sand.
I really like the upper part of Oak Canyon, I think at about mile 60 (?). If the water is right you can go up the narrow canyon at the back of Oak Canyon, and it's beautiful.....

Sandy beaches and one side and these huge boulders on the other side, and very protected if it gets windy.....

Heading into Navajo canyon there is this big sand hill on the right side.
That's a pretty cool place for a houseboat.....we always stop there :D

If you are new to boating in the area there's one thing that I would suggest is getting some "Hot Sauce" ahead of time. It's a real bitch when you pull your boat out of the water and end up with a real bad case of water spots.
I loved boating on Powell, it's an awesome place for a vacation!

Great beaches in Padre and it gets you out of the washing machine. Not too far from Antelope. If you don't have GPS and VHS, get it. A weather radio isn't a bad thing either. I have a handheld combo unit that works great up there. Watch for submerged rocks when you're close to shore. I love that place. :D

Oak Canyon is nice.. as long as you don't mind a 43 mile houseboat trip at 7 mph to get there.... (Bouy 51)

Yea, we usually stay the first few nights around Padre Bay and then head up there. It's worth the trip....have you been up there lately? I think those pictures were 3 or 4 years ago, I don't know if you can still get into that canyon in the back, but it's really nice back there.

Water levels are supposed to be pretty close to last years. We did our lunch stop for the Powellfest Poker Run at Oak Canyon (the left side as you are going in).
We've been out the past 3 weekends and the levels are rising about an inch a day still. Not much, but it all helps.
Budman, I would strongly suggest bringing a rake along. Most of the vegitation on the beach are tumbleweeds that can easily be raked up into a pile and burnt on the first day (makes for a great opening bon fire).
That way if you have to make your own beach, it's not a big deal.

That's a good idea....those tumble weeds are hard on the feet!

We just stayed on Memorial Day at probably one of the best places on the lake, Friendship Cove.
Out of the wind, sandy beach, near Dangling Rope. It's at about marker 35 though, a bit of a trip.
Only 6 or so beatches though, they fill up quick.

Speaking of Rock Creek, have you seen the "toilet bowl" up there??
