‘Brazen' teens arrested on burglary charges
Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:23 PM MST
STAFF REPORTS
Two teenagers were arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing about $50,000 in property from several unlocked north-side homes this past weekend.
Michael E. Decker Jr., 18, and Paul D. Olson III, 17, were charged with four counts of burglary, three counts of theft, one count of theft of transportation and possession of marijuana.
Three homes were burglarized while the residents were at home, police Lt. Rich Sloma said. Decker and Olson allegedly entered the homes through unlocked doors. They also stole a scooter from a driveway, Sloma said.
“They were very brazen,” he said.
No one was confronted or injured in the burglaries.
These were crimes of opportunity, Sloma said. They could have been prevented had the victims locked their doors and windows.
Decker and Olson allegedly stole 12 rifles, four handguns, three shotguns, two spearguns, a pellet gun, four hunting knives, a bow and arrow, ammunition, alcohol, a safe, assorted jewelry including a ring, watch and necklace, and prescription drugs. Police have recovered more than $40,000 of the property, Sloma said.
He said the burglaries occurred in the:
? 3200 block of Foothill Plaza
? 3400 block of South Amberwood Bay
? 3000 block of Gatewood Drive
? 3000 block of Foothill Plaza
Decker and Olson were arrested at 2931 Sombrero Drive after police saw stolen property in plain view, Sloma said.
Decker's bond was set at $400,000. Olson is being held in the Mohave County Juvenile Facility in Kingman, Sloma said.

Crime is on the rise in Havasu no doubt, so here is a friendly piece of advice to weekenders "Dont put your trash out on Sunday nite unless you are scheduled the next day for pickup. It dont take a brain surgeon to figure out the trash schedule for a neighborhood so if your trash is sitting out and you dont get picked up till say Wed. or Thurs. etc. its an open invitation to a tweeker or burgular that NOBODY's HOME!! And with so many vacant houses the back yard is isolated also!! Join a neighborhood watch program also and appreciate a nosey neighbor likw me :D :D :D NSF

Very Good advice. It's sad that we can't leave our boats out without fear of losing a prop or worst.

Could you just imagine coming out for a weekend with your family and seeing your boat spray painted? Just a word of Advise I guess.. Don't leave spray paint in your garage.....

They are lucky to have been caught and not to have been shot. (they would have learned a harsh lesson from their grave) It is a shame that the growth has brought along the bad with the good. :(

All the petty bull$h1t is on the rise to. It's summer and parents don't seem to care where their kids are since it's not a school night. The alarm went off on my F350 about 2;00 AM one night last week. I charged out the door bare footed, in my boxers, flashlight in one hand .45 in the other. Turned off the alarm checked the locks and rearmed it. About that time my neighbor from across the street comes out and whoever tried to get in my truck got in his and stloe a carton of cigaerettes and all his spare change. Then I about tripped over the next door neighbors cd case that they had stolen out of his truck. Either me half nekked and the alarm scared em so bad they dropped it of they saw that "Best of the Doobie brothers" and dropped it anyway. There's entirely to many adolescents around here without enough to do.

Its still a fairly small town and somewhat isolated so you can assume the
pos that are doing this are locals. The police should know who most of
these guys are and where they hang out you would think. I don't know
this but it seems to me they put most there resources on or around the
water.
The neighborhood watch should be very effective since there is
alot of retired people that live here.
