My aunt was driving to Parker, 10 minutes away and rice road came to a complete stop. Cars were skidding to stop. She said she saw emergency vehicles and three medi-vac helicopters. Anyone know what happened? We are heading out today for the week.

They finally let them through at 2:30 in the am. They sat for over 4 hours and when the passed the scene, there was no sign of it. They cleaned everything up no emergency vehicles left, nothing.

Thats terrible news. That road can be pretty scary. Not sure why people dont just make the longer drive throuh Ehrenberg.

While driving out there during the week if there is a lot of traffic on the 10 looking like river people.. I take Ehrenberg. Fri/Sat/Sun it is a must to go that way.

I always go thru desert center. I turn on my headlights and make sure I watch all the cars approaching from a long ways away. Seen some horrible accidents but I take my chances. I figure it could happen anywhere, I never haul ass, just take my time and be careful.

I agree and do the same thing, however I know that I will NOT be the one making the mistake, its just the retard that cant see trying to pass in one of the woops that makes me nervous!!

I always go with the flow of traffic on rice road. I would never go against it, too many stipid people passing on blind spots. Just last weekend a guy a jacked up Chevy truck passed us at least going 90MPH. He and his entire family in the truck. On flat and he will be in big trouble. I do not understand why people put others in harms way. The odds are stacked against him at that speed.

Sorry to hear about the accident, terrible to hear of such tragety.:(
.
RR, its not the road that causes accidents, its the drivers. Passing is serious business and WAY too many people take it much to lightly. Passing trucks is the worst, I am always on high allert when trucks approach and I see a glimps of headlights behind them. Defensive and smart driving is simple but the impatience of people is usually the fault....

Passisng between Vidal junction and Parker is attempted suicide every time. It takes another 10 minutes of driving to just stay behind the trucks. That stretch of road should have a divider on it to save lives, because thre are so many accidents there.

Uh, because it's like 50 minutes longer. I'd rather die in a fiery crash than spend another hour on the road.
Seriously, I've probably made the drive on Rice Road 250-300 times back and forth. You've got to be pretty shitty at driving to get him head on. Some people are shitty drivers.
I think Rice has become less crowded because of the fear..........gotta drive smart and be alert. If the wife would drive out solo I'd ask her to take Ehrenburg route only because if she were to break down there is more help along that route, not because I think its sooooooooo much safer(plenty-o-drunk indians along there)

and in all reality, shitty driving and poor reaction times cause accidents, which at times lead to people dying......alcohol just amplifies those 2 things ;)

100% in agreement with you.
It was just a joke. Calling parker closed, water level jokes, etc. is all part of the long term strip users just trying to get back to the "less busy" river days. If I get just one boater up onto Havasu then my efforts are not wasted.
Around 12,ooo is normal. Thursdays are usually low days...in the 9000 range. Looks like that's not going to happen for a while.:)

That makes too much sense... I think we should just close down Rice Road, Parker Strip and the Sand Bar for good. They're all too dangerous.

The general assumption is always alcohol related, and a serious crime. If sober it's just an accident.........no crime.........I'm sure there's more to the story than HB tells me, but for anyone to assume that alcohol played a role is pre judgemental........Just as it would be to say they were illegal mexicans, or indians messed up on Peyote, or women drivers etc etc.....Check the stats, odds are they were sober. Maybe it was over sized, under rated tires, maybe illegal window tint played a role in the wreck. There are hundreds of possibilities, and I wasn't the one that ass u me d anything.........MP
