Have they had a problem with the Bark Beetle and tree kill up there like they have had in the So Cal mountains? Makes the fire danger that much worse.

Looks like there are 2 fires very sad Tahoe is a great place:
Lake Tahoe: Fire destroys 50 homes
MEYERS (AP) -- A wind-whipped 500-acre forest fire at Lake Tahoe destroyed 50 homes on Sunday and threatened 500 others, a top U.S. Forest Service official confirmed.
Kit Bailey, the agency’s fire chief for Lake Tahoe, said high winds were hampering fire crews in their battle against the fast-moving blaze.
The blaze in the upper Angora Creek drainage about five miles south of Lake Tahoe prompted evacuations of the Angora Lakes Resort and hundreds of homes in the North Upper Truckee Road area of Meyers, located next to the resort town of South Lake Tahoe, authorities said.
“I can’t stay on the phone. We just got a notice to evacuate,” said Gloria Hildinger of the Angora Lakes Resort. “The smoke is getting pretty thick. It’s probably two miles away and we’re hoping it won’t reach here.”
Flames were being fanned by winds of up to 25 mph, and the National Weather Service was calling for gusts of up to 35 mph on Sunday evening.
“They’re definitely having problems with the winds up there,” said Linda Curran of the Camino Interagency Dispatch Center in California. “The fire has a rapid rate of spread because of the winds.”
At least five air tankers and two helicopters were assisting more than 400 firefighters on the ground.
The fire, believed to be caused by human activity, was reported at 2:14 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Forest Service land.
Its huge smoke plume can be seen for miles around the Reno-Tahoe area.
This is the first story I had found
Fire crews appear to have gotten a handle on a small brush fire — about 50 by 100 feet wide — behind the Post Office off of Al Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe. A plume of smoke can be seen for several miles.
The fire, reported shortly before 4 p.m., had been fueled by wind gusts, according to police scanner reports. Strike teams from around the basin were initially called in and as of 4:40 p.m. some of the fire crews have been turned back. A U.S. Forest Service investigator has been asked to look at the fire scene. No structure have been reported threatened.
The firefighters have got the fire surrounded on all sides and are using hoses and dirt to snuff out the flames, according to Tahoe Daily Tribune photographer Trevor Clark, who is at the scene.

Last report at 11 PM was 165 homes lost, assessed at around 2000 acres. Fire in area between Fallen Leaf Lake and Hwy 89 known as Tahoe Paradise. This was from CDF or USFS PIO interview live on the news so its probably pretty accurate.

Now maybe someone or a group will sue the crap out of the TRPA and any enviro-nazi's that can be named for every bit of damage due to their stranglehold on managing the forest.
TRPA will allow little to no cutting of the trees and if they do approve a homeowner cutting one it is so flippin' expensive and such a paperwork fiasco most don't cut any.
This type of fire has been brewing for years in Tahoe. Maybe this will open some eyes.

This area is heavily wooded and heavily populated. Very nice area too! this is very sad. :(
Probably some ass-hole who threw a lit cigarette out the window.
It happens quite a bit especially around the major roads.
They don't publish exactly how these fires start but its usually some jerk-off that started them doing something stupid.
If this keeps up we are gonna need a new vacation home :(

This is Kalifornia we are talking about..... the inmates are running the asylum.
I can just hear those nut jobs now....we should sue ourselves for having the nerve to build homes in the forest.....:) :)
