How big of a cam shaft can I use in a small block chevy. Had a Lunati hyd cam, was 490 lift with 1.6 roller rocker, which put it some were around 515, maybe wrong. Worked great, now rebulding ,motor....30 over, 10.1 pop-up's soild cam is being made, Wilson Engine Service here in Wichita has a popular cam 286 (250@.50) 513 lift. Installing 1.5 rollers, just dont really like the others. Wondering if I could go a little bigger. Any ideas?

if your runnin a dual plane rpm style intake, something around 550 lift, if you've got a single plane, go big 590-600. your jacuzzi likes rpms, let it have some:D

Yo Thomas, I got the 462 heads, big valves and some mild porting. Running the RPM Performer, tried a Victor Jr but it seemed like it lost to much low end and that ol'Jacuzzi would not let the motor spin, put the other back on and problem solved.

Save money for cyl heads. A cam any bigger probably will just take away low end and not add on top end without better heads.

Would love to get some really good heads, just going to go with what I've got. When I bought the boat the owner had installed a RPM cam, lifter, intake and carb kit on it, ran ok. Installed 750 dp and woke it up. Then oil psi. started fluctuating, so pulled motor, checked bearings, installed new oil pump, and cam lifter set and timing chain, just for a choppy idle:) Sounds good to me runs desent too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oohf-NhuGek

I fully agree. I went with AFR 190cc's on mine. The difference between them and stock heads is night and day. I am running a 226/230 .537/.511 112LSA Hyd roller cam. 10.0-1 SCR, Forged bottom end, Performer RPM, Holley 750DP, Glenwood alum HP manifolds, FastGlass 4" stainless 16" long risers. Pulls hard to 5600rpms.
