Is a salt based water softener the only option available for a home to remove the hardness of the water? Is there some other type of system that can be used? Just curious if there is a better system that does leave that still soapy feeling.....

no, it is the cheapest. There are several other systems out there, they all cost more to set up and alot more to run.

If you decide to go with the salt type, give Rayne a call. They did a great job on the system in our Havasu house.

Adjust the softener correctly and use potassium instead of salt and you should be good to go. A correctly set w s will not leave the soapy felling. Most people set them to high for there areas hardness. You can look up your waters hardness on your water supply companys web site. By law they have to do testing and make the test available to the public.
