Matt:
The rudder is offset so you can get the prop shaft out. Does your boat have 4 stringers?

Can anyone explain why they are so narrow?

I need to replace the stingers should I take them out to 22 or more if there's room?

My Revenge sprint stringers are at 22". I thought mine were narrow. Never seen any at 16". Sounds like the new boat has a couple of surprises. eek! eek!
Might want to think about that fine looking Daytona sprint.

Thanks in advance Matt.Been away all weekend rebuilding computers, I must have missed something here?? What kind of boat did you buy, you have pics??..My stringers are 22", 16" seems kinda narrow???, I seen a lot of boats with the rudder offset, makes it a snap to take out the shaft without dropping the rudder!!!.. eek!

Matt,
What did you buy?
I saw an old Hondo flat with the stringers only 16" apart once. The engine was mounted on a rail system on the outside of the stringers, it sat up really high, and it was necessary to use a remote oil filter because it wouldn't clear the stringers. Turns out that the boat was originally rigged for an outboard and was converted to a v-drive.

Pinto Powered?? :D There use to be a guy on the Parker strip in the late 70s or so that built a little flattie for his kid and he was running a pinto in it. It was a very short flattie and kinda looked like one of Bob Longs old boats out of Huntington Beach, maybe 15-16 feet in length.
The first time we saw him floating in the water, we thought someone had hit him because he was running just one header on it, we thought maybe the other had been knocked off in a wreck. When we got closer and saw it was pinto powered, we checked it out. I think it was running a couple of side draft webbers along with the header. Have no idea what he was running in the motor, but when he left and stuck his foot in it, it ran pretty well, sounded pretty cool too. They were having a ball in it.

Matt, if you have to replace them anyways, do put them at the standard 22". It will make life easier in the future. Just make sure you prep the surface well, and lay them in a bed of wetted out 1 oz mat. I have built stringers out of laminated plywood, and feel that's the way to go. Give me a call if I can help you, even though I am moving to Havasu in 3 days....
