A friend of mine, his brother and two sons spent Saturday out on the boat. Early in the day the brother trips in the boat and hits his head on the side of the boat. It leaves a goose egg. They spend the rest of the day fishing and swimming. He felt fine all day.
Around six last evening they are pulling back into the marina where the boat slip is. My friend steps into the cabin for a second and the two sons start screaming. The brother passed out. He hit his head on the dash and had about a 4 inch gash in his head. They called 911. The ambulance arrived before they got to the dock. They did CPR but he was pronouced dead at the E.R.
He was only 43 years old. The two sons were 9-10. They had to watch the hole thing. Very Very SAD!!!!!:(
Im wondering if the bump on the head had anything to do with it....???

His children watched it all? Head injuries, no matter how minor are NOTHING to play with. My prayers! At least he passed doing what he loved and with his family! If you think about it, thats the way to go!

Who can get your CPR card and know how it works... I had a stroke around Superstition Mountain. Got stuck in the sand in the work truck and got buried digging out. Bad day. 35 miles off road. Woke up to four quad guys asking how drunk was I? No right arm, no talking, no cell phones.... Didn't know how those worked for three days. Drove home 4 hours on 10 LBS of Toyo. I ALWAYS look at people that could use help in a different light.
Think about it...

It sounds like he had a brain injury from the first hit to the head. I am surprised he did not have any symptoms.
Sad!

Sad!
Same thing happend to a farmer here a while back. He was walking across a field and fell, Hit his head on a rock just left a bump on his head. Worked the rest of the day. That night he had fell asleep in the recliner and when the family could not wake him they called 911. He passed the next day from bleeding on the brain.
Nobody recalls him complaining of anything.

My son has one, he's a lifeguard for the City Of Phoenix pools. He took his certification with the Red Cross. You can probably call them and find out where a class is.

For Redcross info go to their website: www.redcross.org Just put in your zip code for your chapter.
It only takes a few hours (CPR/AED training) and well worth it - why? Because it works.
Also, it's worth it to encourage the city you live in to purchase AED's for public locations at a minimum.
