Been doing some research on this board. Trying to find any information on the Berkley Y pump. So far, all I can mostly find is information on the J series pumps. Anybody have any information on this pump? Thanks!

Potentially buying the boat this Saturday. Any help would be appreciated. For instance, do they offer a drop snot for this pump? Place diverter available? Thanks!

Call CP Performance, they are Berkeley.

Thanks for the advice. After calling, I might pass on the boat. It is Jacuzzi YJ pump. Not a Berkeley. Seems it is a very rare pump, with no aftermarket support. Worse, it has a Pontiac 455, which, if I remember right, has oiling problems in the cylinder head (this is from my muscle car days). Oh well. The search for a nice boat continues!

 you can always change pumps and motors ;)

Well, its a 1976 Challenger, 18'. He wants 7850 for it, and won't go below 7000. Has a the original 455 block (rebuilt) with the Jacuzzi YJ. Seems that the enegizer kit is 1800 bucks. Seems like it would become a VERY expansive boat if I wanted to switch out the motor and pump for something more reliable and performance oriented.

Small update. He sent me pictures. It has a 455 Olds...not a Pontiac. Also, he said the pump is in fact a Berkely Y pump. Here is a picture of the pump:

So, anybody have any info on this pump?

That's a Berk "E" pump. Decent performance for a pleasure/family boat. Now all you have to deal with is a 455 and a high price.

yep thats a berk "E" and they are not bad as long as you dont want to go over 70ish. Junk the olds and get a chevy ;)

Quick update...The 455 Olds was rebuilt by Mondello Performance...I believe he is pretty much the Olds expert, correct?

Joe Mondello has been out of the Mondello Performance picture for some time now. Back in the day if you did everything Joe recommended and spent your money you could have a decent running 455. I went that route back in the 80s with my 75 Avenger. Wait for the right boat to come along.
460 BBF or 454 BBC.
I'm happy with my 454 in the Hallett. Original engine, been running now for 30 years with just the heads having to be freshened up 2 years ago.
249 total hours on the motor now.
Good luck in your quest.:)

Olds and a Berk E, good lake pleasure boat setup, IF the motor is put together right. I have not been hearing flattering things about Mondello lately, including their in-house engine work. I wouldn't run it hard at all till I saw it's innerds and measured stuff.
If you are going to want a future go-very-fast, look for a NON-E/F/I pump and the Ford or Chevy motor.

Just wanted I needed to hear. I don't mind buying a boat that is mostly stock..but I want it to have potential to become much faster as I become more comfortable with the boat.
Thanks for all your help guys! Happy to have found this forum!

Isn't an E pump a split bowl?
