Are there any maltese owners here? Bentley is almost a year old and I want to bring him with us to the river. Robk thinks he will get too hot
Any thoughts??

NO problem for the little guy. Just make sure he wears a doggy life vest with a handle on the top so you can dunk him to cool him off.

Do most of the doggy life vest come with handles? Where's the best place to find one?

My brother and sis-in-law bring there's to the river, the dunes, Pismo and doesn't seem to bother him. They just put a life jacket on him and stake him next to the edge of the water is some shade.
Rio
I'm happy to hear that... I've been wanting to bring him out but a little afraid that he would get too hot!

Our maltese, Rambo loves the river, but remember that under that white hair is a lot of pink skin. Our vet told us to be careful when he is exposed to the sun for too long. Just make sure the bimini is up, and keep him/her cool. I would start out with short trips on the boat and make sure they like it before you head out on a looooong boat ride.

There is a company called Outward Hound that makes really good ones. That's what we use, and Charley likes it, even though he not wearing his here...

Former Maltese owner here (she passed away after 17 great years...). We took little Raton to Havasu a million times and even Powell a couple of times. As others have said, lots of shade and water and wet the poochie down if he starts panting too much. Have fun! :)

If you are going to Havasu go to Scaps Dog Bakery off London Bridge road Behind the China Buffet, you can walk to it from the channel if you park by the condos on the North side. They have great life vests and a good price:D West marine is very high on the price IMO.

My wife has one of the little furballs. He does really well on the boat, but keep water handy for them and limit how much they are in the sun. I got my wife a leather carry case that stores all of his gear for travel and when needed, she can stuff him in it instead of leaving him in a vehicle. He is content and it is amazing the number of stores never say a word about him going in that way.
