Total newbie to v-drives, but am looking at some Spectras and Campbells for my first boat purchase. Can someone help a newbie by explaining advantages, disadvantages, etc., of a v-drive compared to what I call a standard outdrive (merc, volvo, etc).
thank you

Albert,
I think you are making a good choice going with the Spectra or Campbell. I prefer the Spectra, but you could not go wrong with the Campbell.
If you need any info. on the Spectra please visit www.spectramarine.com. (http://www.spectramarine.com.)
Good Luck,
Brent

All propulsion systems (except outboards...) have their merit. It depends on what you plan on doing with the boat. What are you planning on doing?

Cruising the parker strip, Lake Havasu, teaching 3 kids to water ski, maybe camping out once in a while, hitting Mead or Mojave once a a year;
So, a little utility, and I am hoping for something in the 26 to 28' range.
Just an all round utility boat, and I do like the daycruiser style. Not concerned about speed.
thanks

Your going to have trouble finding a V-drive in that size range. You will probably want a something with a stock big block/bravo 1 combo. Or you can step down in size to a 21-22' and go with a v-drive. But keep in mind, v-drives are generally maintenance intensive, due to all the extra hardware. You have to love picking up your wrenches to own one. Good Luck!

Get the V-Drive. They use less fuel then Jets and Outboards. They handel better then all of the others, they can take unlimitted power, plus you can talk to all of the Cool V-Drive Guys.

I think in alot of ways the V-Drive is alot more reliable than any I/O ever thought of being. Plus pretty much anybody can take a Casale apart and put it back together. Alot less moving parts. Just my .03 cents........ wink
