you need to drain about 8 inches out... but because of the mineral deposits left behind floating in your pool, you should drain it completely (afterwards, as they tend to cling right back on the tile rather quickly)). We don't know about 1 hrs work though, to do it right it should take at least 3 hrs from arrival to departure. After all your overhead.. and taxes... you really only make around 50 an hour (which most boats burn in fuel). The only way you can keep your tile from getting the "mineral build up" is to drain your pool at least every other year, and that depends on location. We sub out tile cleaning, we get to save the 75k for equipment as well as the overheard of additional employess and all those other costs involved.

I,v seen 40 year old tile look brand new after a glassbead. We're talking tile that is completely covered in calcium 100%. Way cheaper than new tile. Once your tile is cleaned. Use Biodex300 to clean the tile once a year. You'll never have to glass it again. Only need to drop water below the tile, Draining three inches of water only takes about 15 minutes. The glass bead is harmless to the water. Vac the pool and thats it. Harmless to the filter as well.
400 bucks is well worth it. It should only be a one time deal. If beading tile is all you do all day you should be pretty fast at it. Costly to get set up doing this for a living. Remember, to get that one hour job you have to- answer a call, measure to give an estimate, sell the job, return to do the work, procure payment, and follow up with a courtesy call. It realy costs more than an hour time.
