496 mag OVERHEATING Need Help

So saturday night as I was heading back to my slip I slowed down and looked at my gauges and noticed the temp gauge was buried. I shut the engine off and opened up the hatch and felt a couple of the hoses and they didnt seem hot to the touch. So I am going to bring the boat in to town this week and see what is going on. It is closed cooling and I didnt smell any anitfreeze when i lifted the hatch. Should I check the impeller or should i start with the thermostat since it is closed cooling? Not sure where to start. i would sart at the sensor and make sure that it is functioning properly ,

if the wire to the sensor gets grounded it will peg the gauge. check if it got against the exhaust and melted.

If its really a mag,,,they suck! On the dyno they`ll knock out a whole town!
