KATHERINE LANDING - The National Park Service is investigating an accident that killed a 33-year-old man Friday after his personal watercraft reportedly collided with a boat on Lake Mohave.
David Johnson II, whose driver's license reportedly indicates a Kingman address, was brought to the Katherine Landing Marina by the boat he had reportedly hit, shortly after 6 p.m. according to park service officials.
Bullhead City Fire Department paramedics stabilized Johnson and took him to the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, where he was airlifted to Las Vegas by Tri-State CareFlight, said Engineer/Paramedic Keith Maher.
He was pronounced dead at McCarran International Airport, awaiting transportation to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center.
Johnson's death was most likely a result of impact, “blunt force trauma to the abdomen,” said Mohave District Ranger Dirk Murphy, but the exact cause has yet to be determined. The coroner's report was not available.
Both watercraft involved in the accident have been impounded, pending further investigation of the impact, Murphy said.
