and why is it a sport? :)
It's the most gruling, pain staking, body tearing sport there is.
Kinda like darts.

I'm thinking it's one of those sports that arose as an excuse for drinking. Kinda like bowling, Golf and Auto Racing.

What gets me is that there are many pros out there that agree Golf is not a sport.
It's a game that people get big bucks to play. Just like bowling.
Take ice skating. That's not a sport by any means.
I guess that's why they say. "Let the games begin".

True.
I can figure out why they get to buff the ice while the clay pot slides down the ice.
That's cheating!

And then when the rock goes off course they say they picked up some debris. I'm yelling at the TV "DUDE!!! You have a F-ing BROOM in your hand!!! How could there be any debris?!!!"

I always wonder about curling too. What actually qualifies it as an olympic event? Is there really such athleticism needed?

When curling first became a sport... I think it was 8 years ago... Canada overlooked the top Canadian (and world) team in favor of a more buff looking team. Curling is indeed a game of sloppy fat beer drinking farmers. You don't have to be in shape to play it.
It does take tremendous skill to play at the highest levels. Saskatchewan farmers have nothing else to do in winter than curl and drink beer so that's what they do. Every small town has a curling rink and a hockey rink. Perhaps that's why Saskatchewan has always done so well in curling.
Sandra Peterson (Schmirler), the lead of the one time world champion women's team, used to work for my company and had a desk next to where I now sit. She passed away of cancer but is still well remembered around here.
Anyway, this is the curling capitol of the world and I don't know why it's an olimpic sport, either.

Curling? Yea, we do it all the time... I think the sport originated by the farmers of northeast Louisiana. We use 12 oz cans though...... :crossx:

and why is it a sport? :)
Its like golfing in the winter, closest to the hole wins :p
why is it a sport?
First you tell me why grown adults ride around on horses with mallets and beat a ball into a net and call it polo ? Why do grown men get all fat and shit and put on some thing to hold up there balls and wrestle and call it Sumo Wrestling :yuk:
If you can ride a souped up toboggan down a hill and call it the luge, curling is right in there :p ..........( . )( . ).............
