Sorry it has taken so long to get the pictures put up of the final outcome of the ski pylon we installed on "Slightly Cranky" for the Catalina Ski Race. River Dave machined the parts and I installed them on the boat. The pole works perfectly. We tugged on it with two guys and it didn't budge. Should do the trick just fine.

Under an hour..... Sat is suppost to be small 1 - 1 1/2 ft swells with 4 - 7 mph winds out of the west... SHould make for a very FAST race.....

Man do I feel bad for that skier having to deal with those #6 drives. Go easy on the trim Jay.

If you talk to any Open class skier or any top skier for that matter the 6 drive is an advantage. With big power you can keep the drives trimmed in and plow through the water giving the skier a better ride and if the speed is needed just a slight trim and its there. Boats with Bravo style drives need to really trim it out to get the speed thus flying the boat and ultimately giving the skier a worse ride.

You are right about tucking the drives in. But don't EVER try to predict the water conditions until about 15 minutes into the race. You won't even know until you clear the breakwater. Even then, things can and will change

We can plow through the rough stuff pretty good, but if we bury them too much it shoots a rooster too....

Yes I have pulled this race on just the rails... Now the weight is transfered between the rail and swim step....

You are absolutly right. We tried out everything when we were pulling the race from sand bags up front to trim angles to tab position to the amount of fuel we carried...bottom line we set the drives and left them and played with the tabs when we needed to...but what really helps is a good skier.
It's a great time when everything is set up right and you have a good run with a good skier. Grant is a very good skier and you have a great boat for the race. Almost every top skier firmly believes you need a 42 Fountain with 6 drives to win. You definitely have the right set up going...good luck.

Well maybe between Pat, and myself put together it'd be around 40. ;)
I'm happy it turned out well, after the race when you get some more time, we'll either get it engraved, or scrap that bottom plate entirely in favor of something smaller, so that we can get that portion of the swim step filled in etc.. The 8'er? :jawdrop: Not sure how the grab rail is gonna hold up to that? :D
Should be noted that Pat (Cutting Edge CNC) not myself, made the top plate, clamp, and squared the bottom plate for me.
I surfaced everything, drilled and tapped the holes, made the collar for the pole and basically did a shit load of leg work from screw suppliers, polishers, to B&D Marine (nice shop by the way) etc..

Lets hope the weather stays clear and that ocean fog stays way off shore. Ocean Water has been very warm this year.
Saturday: Clouds and sun mixed in the morning, then generally sunny for the afternoon. High 76F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

It’s not to late..but don’t interfere with the integrity of the strength…it still looks pretty neat.

Hey Dave, how about maybe cutting some windows in that top plate and producing a webbing effect with some anodizong. Sturdy, lightweight....and BLINGY.

Jay, nice looking piece of hardware. The add on larger platform and 6' tall pole will come in useful also.

I know that amount of weight does not make a difference, but you can certainly make that top plate very trick with some more time.

I was thinking 40 hours was pretty excessive for the machine work alone.

I'm sure Dave wasn't given a print he could just work from.
People don't understand how long the one off stuff takes from concept to completion. At only 65.00 per hour that's $2,600.00 in just time. And that is exactly why when things like that come through I either turn it down or just do if as a friend thing.

Hey Dave, how about maybe cutting some windows in that top plate and producing a webbing effect with some anodizong. Sturdy, lightweight....and BLINGY.
The plates themselves aren't solid, the top has already been recessed with webbing on the bottom side of it. I left the top flat so that we could annodize it, and then engrave the boat name in it etc.. We ran out of time before the race.
The bottom plate has 2 pockets in it, but again I ran out of time. After the race when I get some more time I'm probably going to change that bottom plate out in favor of something else, depending on what glass work Jay wants to do in that area.
