I like Hondas the best, a Honda trx 90 is a good first bike, it has the big bike looks, so your kid can still maintain his stature. Electric start too.
I think Hondas are the best.
Yamaha has a Raptor 80 or 90, which is about the same, a scaled down version of their big bike. I think it has electric start as well.
Both are 4 stroke, as two strokes are unfortunately getting killed off.

If he had a little experience, or you think he could handle it, I would say spring for the trx250 Honda
If your riding is in the sand, he may outgrow the 90. Desert you will probably be ok.

I just bought my boys the Eton 90. Thing hauls ass. It's even fun for me. I don't even have the governor cranked all the way up, nor the throttle screw. And it's fast enough. I wanna say it was like $1000 cheaper than the Hondas. I looked at those too. I like the Hondas. The Eton is already prewired for headlights. You just have to buy the $20 harness, and peel off the reflective stickers, and voila, you got lights. I know, why didn't they just throw that in? Has brake lights too. Elec. start, rear disc brakes, auto, no gears, horn. Parts are readily available, unlike the cheapy knockoffs. Pretty sweet ride IMO. Oh yea, my 6 year old rides it too. My oldest is 11 and a pretty big boy. Perfect for him. Good luck.

Good point on the 250. A lil' more riding, and my boy could handle that I think. Would definetely need the power in the sand.

Honda trx 250 for a 110 lb kid.
It has a unique auto or manual clutch (riders choice), more power, and rolls to a smart safe stop mearly by letting go of the gas.
We have a 75 lb kid and the new Honda 90 just works,, he'll be outta it by next year when he's 90 lbs and it'll be the 250.

Looks like I may be selling my daughters Polaris Preditor90 real soon....she's about ready for the Banshee now.
Great bike, electric start, horn.........
Two stroke simplicity, autolube.
Not sure how soon I'll sell but its an easy ride for the young ones.
