I drove from Vegas to Phoenix yesterday and could not believe how frickin high up that bridge is. I took this picture on my cell, and I was still WAY above the dam and this thing was much higher.
I wont be able to cross it without vomiting. However, what an AMAZING construction job. I couldn't imagine driving on it, let alone building it.
The base of this thing is about where the top of the dam is, maybe a little higher. In person, those columns are huge!

Don't be a puss, you'll probably not even notice its height, by design.
I can't wait to drive over it.......just like I'd like to go check out the Grand Canyon walk that juts out over the edge.

Thats cool, I use to be afraid of hights when I was a kid, till I got on the parachute ride at Knotts by myself 4 times in a row to get over my fear. Now I love heights and will definitely drive through when the bridge is done.

This is even a better perspective...with the dam in the background

Nothing like low bid construction... wonder what corners they're cutting that the other bidders had figured into their bid??? Less steel??? Inferior concrete??? Just gotta wonder...    :D

Don't worry about it... if you somehow make it over the barriers, it'll be a good ten second decent or so to the river... you'll have plenty of time at that point to think things over...

It's for everybody... once the bridge is open, you won't be able to drive across the dam anymore.

Yes, its for the Mexican trucks to get to Canada...(think about this for awhile)

while you were driving i was flying over you going the opposite direction. I flew from PX to Vegas last night and we flew straight down havasu banked left and made it around some serious monsoon shizzle. shook us up like popcorn.

Magic , come to Vancouver . I'll take you to walk on the Capilano suspension bridge :) It's safe , and never collapsed since it was built :) :D Check out the videos of Vancouver's attractions here >http://www.directadmedia.com/simonsees/capilano.html
. Hell's Gate is another great venue when the water gets high .

The Discovery Channel did an episode on the construction...very interesting. I would have no problem driving across it.

On another note... Damn the lake is low. There had to be at least a 100' water line to show how low it was. You can tell it is low when flying over, but when driving across the dam and see the actual canyon walls, really shows something different.

Heck, if the water level keeps dropping at Mead, they're not even going to need the dam anymore

I drove through that. Never seen flash flooding like that or right next to the road like it was. It seriously looked like the Colorado River, with big rapids and all, 3 feet off of the road.

You should have nothing to worry about, they already fixed the cranes that collapsed and are back building the bridge.

How long before the first bungee jumper tries this bridge out? Only a matter of time.

We did the Hoover Dam tour recently on our way back from the Grand Canyon. I snapped these pic's from the observation deck above the dam so you can see how fricken high that bridge is.
I can just see the base jumpers now:sqeyes:

AZ Game & Fish haven't updated since 7-12, but on that day that is a 116' ring around the lake from normal pool. With very little coming in, it could be down 125 feet by end of summer. Still a lot of lake though...
