If he cannot get the keys, use a Sawzall with a bi metal blade. I have cut through many locks except hardened steel locks like a hardened Masterlock hasp. Anything else is like butter.

might want to use a composite blade for a skill saw if its hardend. It will go thru it like butter.

if I don't make a list I will forget something... never look at the list, just have to write it down or I will forget.
Forget about using the sawall( trust me) just make sure you have a good pair of pilers/ vise grips.

I am a newbie here! I thought this could help your friend.
I don't know if your friend fixed his no key situation yet but here is an easy way to open any keyed lock, as long as you are willing to replace the lock.
Use a cordless drill (or an electric drill if power is available) with an 1/8" drill bit just above the keyway (about 1/8"). As you drill the bit will go through the tumblers, (or pins) you will hear / feel the bit progress as it passes the tumblers (pins) / depending on the lock type. Then use a 1/4" bit in the same manner and wobble the drill to hog out the original 1/8" hole and the lock will open once you get all of the springs, tumblers, (or pins) out with the drill bits.
It is pretty easy to do. I learned this one from a locksmith!!!!
Do not use wood bits!
Good Luck. :D

Thank Lorne for thowing out the thread and to those that responded. The boat keys are in the ignition and don't ever leave. But I didn't bring the keys to trailer lock. They always stay in my truck. We just happened to take my wifes this weekend and didn't bring them. Also on the keys were the house keys, but my buddy had a key and was there. Why the boats locked in the garage I don't know. I guess old habit. Anyway. We got it off with some good 'ol fasion prying. We actaully got it off so easy it's sad.
And thanks Lorne for leaving your empties on the boat. Totally appreciate it:D
