So the time has come on my project where i need to purchase the gauges. i am looking for a RPM, oil temp, water temp, and volt. I was checking out some sites and saw a few i liked. My question is, what are the best type of gauges for my 1976 Krutis?

Auto Meter are the best commercially available gauge for your application. IMO.

I have to agree with Wayne, Stewart Warner look the most period correct for flat bottoms.

I have to agree with Wayne, Stewart Warner look the most period correct for flat bottoms. They may be period correct but S/W quality has gone in the tank. I have had nothing but problems with S/W from inaccuracy to not working at all right out of the box. Mechanical temp guages, oil press. guages, mechanical tachs, electrical tachs all. Bought a new S/W mechanical tach for my Kenworth [0 to 3500 rpm] It read 1200 rpm at idle[550 actual rpm] and 1600 rpm at governor shutoff [2350 actual rpm] Needless to say it was returned and exchanged for another brand. 3 oil press. guages defective, one stuck at 20 lbs, engine off and 2 had sticky needle movement. 2 mech water temp guages, did not work at all. Sorry to see an American Icon go to hell but if your guages aren't accurate and reliable why bother? I use Auto-Meter now.

That sucks as they used to be the best gauges you could buy. Accurate, reliable and great looking. Couldn't beat 'em...

I use Auto Meter pro comp fluid filled gages for the mechanical gages and have not had any problems and there will be no rust on the outer frame, if you want to add bling to it add polished bezels, I have a 74 Sanger shovel nose hydro and the look great

Jones is the only way to go for a mechanical Tach, they are leaps and bounds over S/W, but for the rest of the gauges all i'll use is those classic S/W Mechanical gauges for pressures, electrics for the temp, we've been using them and have never had any problems with them, and they are period correct in style for your boat as well.

i have a few more questions about the gauges. i am only going to have 3 gauges. Tach, oil temp, and water temp. What size is best for the tach? and what size is best for the oil temp and water temp. the tach will be placed next to the other two gauges on the dash. Second question is, do i get the oil temp from 60-140 or 140 to 260 degrees? amd shoould i get the water from 140-280 or 140-340 degrees. Thanks in advance to who ever answers my Kook questions:D

The standard tach size is 3 3/8" opening, the smaller guages are 2" (2 1/16"), i'll look around for the jones website, some guy bought all the stuff and is still making them.
http://www.schulzemfg.com/mectach1.htm <-jones tach guy give him a call and he can tell you the options, rpm range, size etc
BTW i'm pretty sure Glenwood still caries jones tachs, i don't how much diff there is in price between schulze and glenwood

I have a full dash full of SW's that are gonna be just sitting in my garage cabinet including oil temp and fuel pressure. I also have three Mech Jones tachs. I dont need any of the gauges and I will let one of the tachs and a drive go. PM me for prices. Geoff

You got that right, and you can't beat Autometer's waranty and customer service either. My ProComp tach and guages are 15 yrs old and still as they came out of the box!.....

140-260 for oil temp, oil needs to be 180-210 to work!..
140-280 for water, probably won't get much over 140!..

Depends on how far you need to go, you can get them 12ft long if needed!..

Big dif... You can buy the bigger tach direct from Schulze, for the price of the little tach from Glenwood. I did, and no regrets... Note if you get a Jones, its very important to leave a little stretch room on the end of the cable; it should not be too tight a fit...
