we were in the house with all the kids who slept over for my daughters birthday party. At about 8:00 p.m I here all these sirens cars skreaching around the corner. I here all the kids running for the door.. I yell stop freeze, where are you going. They say outside to see what is going on. I say are you crazy. You don't know what the cops are doing, they could be chasing someone with a gun. Get back upstairs and stay there until I tell you all you can come out.
after all the cops drive by and I hear the sirens in the distance I went outside. Nothing.. then all of a sudeen 3 more come hauling ass down the street doing at least 75.. I live on a residential street but it is a main drag through culver city. So I go back in the house flip the news on to see if anything is on. Nothin.. Oh well . about 12:30 I go to bed and searched the net this is what I found.
Westside task force targets gang crime
By Ashraf Khalil, Times Staff Writer
July 29, 2007
More than 120 law enforcement officers from a multi-agency task force swept through Culver City and other Westside communities Saturday in a one-day campaign designed to dent persistent gang crime by targeting repeat offenders and parole and probation violators.
Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the FBI and the Los Angeles, Culver City, Inglewood and Santa Monica police departments deployed throughout several Westside neighborhoods.
"It's a reminder to both the public and the criminals that we are doing our best to make the area safe," said Sgt. Marc Reina of the LAPD's Pacific Division Station, which served as the command center for the day. "Even if we don't make any arrests, as long as we're out there making a demonstration of force, then it's a success."
The campaign, part of the Western Regional Gang Task Force, aims to clean up notorious gathering spots for area gang members and drug activity.
A group of parole and probation officers, backed up by police, conducted surprise home inspections of residents on probation for violent or gang-related offenses. More than a dozen undercover officers were deployed throughout the target areas. Reina said they were used in a scouting "eyes and ears on the ground" role, rather than actively making drug buys.
Drug-sniffing dogs were on call for house and vehicle searches, and a specialized vehicle was deployed that scans the license plates of all surrounding cars — searching for stolen vehicles or cars owned by crime suspects.
As of about 9 p.m., officers had made 14 arrests, all for outstanding felony warrants, and searched 30 locations. Near midnight, the campaign was to shift its focus to areas known as late-night hangouts for gang members, particularly Dockweiler State Beach, south of Venice Beach.
The task force conducted similar daylong campaigns in Inglewood and Santa Monica earlier this year and plans to be in a different area each month, said Lt. James Markloff, gang interdiction coordinator for the LAPD's Western Bureau, which includes the Pacific Station.
Markloff said officers weren't seeking specific suspects. The goal, he said, wasn't necessarily a wave of arrests but a long-term reduction in the crime rate, particularly gang-related crimes.
"Our measure of effectiveness is not how many people we arrest. If you're measuring your success only by arrest statistics, then you're starting to sound too much like Operation Hammer," Markloff said, referring to the late 1980s anti-gang campaign that drew criticism for harsh and excessive police tactics.
Part of the long-term solution, Markloff said, will come through the cross-agency bonds and contacts being formed among Westside gang specialists involved in the task force. "We're going to break down the borders," he said. "Gangs know no borders, so neither should we."

A gang crackdown in the Venice-Culver City area netted at least 14 arrests at 30 locations.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Operations-West Bureau and Pacific Area Gang Enforcement Detail, in partnership with several local and state law enforcement agencies, conducted the raids to reduce gang violence in Pacific Area, Culver City and Santa Monica.
In all, about 100 officers arrested 14 suspected gang members at 30 sites.
"At this point we're going after known and self-admitted gang members," Santa Monica police Lt. Darrell Lowe said.
"A gang member will go where an opportunity exists," he added.
The crackdown was expected to continue until 2 a.m. Sunday and then resume next month, when efforts will be focused on the Wilshire area and Universal City.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Law enforcement officials fanned across Long Beach early Tuesday morning, busting through doors and detaining suspected gang members in targeted raids designed to take down violent offenders.
According to a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives official, agents expect to have 33 people in custody by the end of the operation.
22 search warrants were issued for a group of houses and two hotels in the area and detainees are being processed at the U.S. Customs House, according to the ATF.
Nearly 500 federal agents and local police officers were taking part in the massive effort that got under way around 4 a.m.
Mike Campbell, a spokesman with the ATF, said the operation was one of the largest he's seen.
During one bust, authorities charged through the front door of a home in a quiet residential neighborhood, setting off grenades to stun their suspects inside.
Campbell said the raids would take place throughout the day. They're part of a wider crackdown in cities nationwide on gang members suspected of dealing drugs and committing violent crimes.

Havasu Suspect
Arrested In California
LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - Lake Havasu City Police are grateful a suspect they were searching for has been arrested in Culver City, California. Dante Edden is wanted for allegedly molesting a young family member. Authorities believe he molested a 12-year old twice within the last 6 months in the 2400 block of Winterhaven Drive. Charges against Edden include child molestation and sexual abuse. In addition, he is being charged with failure to maintain compliance as a registered sex offender.
Culver City Police Lieutenant Ed Baughan (who also owns a house in Lake Havasu City) told TSN the arrest took place Saturday morning. Culver City Police Department officers Cary Grant and Allen Shepherd conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations and as they walked up to the car, the front seat passenger tossed a bag of marijuana out the window. Upon talking with the man, later identified as Edden, the officers immediately sensed something wasn’t quite right with him. He was overly polite, but evasive and misleading when questioned. After obtaining no less than four false names from him, he was arrested on the marijuana charge. A short time after booking, fingerprints identified the arrestee as 31-year-old Edden, who was wanted on over $1-million bail for multiple counts of child molestation and child sexual abuse
