Big boat/small boat...Come one and all! Who's coming out for the biggest open water poker run in the nation?? Stay a few days after and head over to Catalina for a night or two. There's already an impressive line up of rides coming from all over the nation, should be another great event! Docking available for 100+ boats in front of the Yardhouse and directly across from Host hotel Hyatt Long Beach.
Here's what SCOPE says about the run this year:
"The dates are set for the 2007 SCOPE (Souther California Offshore Power boat Elite) Poker Run. Billed as one of the largest (completely) open water poker runs in the country, this event, held on September 28th - 29th in beautiful Long Beach, Ca. will definitely be the weekend you do not want to miss.
After taking last year off due to permit issues, renovation of local docks and new ownership of prior host hotel, the SCOPE Poker Run is back in full force! Organizers are planning this year to be better than ever with a new host hotel, The Hyatt Regency (http://www.longbeach.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp). Making convenience for poker runners a high priority, organizers were able to secure over 100 boat slips for poker runners, located directly across Pine Ave. from The Hyatt Regency Hotel.
As usual, Friday will be open for all arrivals and poker runners to launch boats, secure docking, confirm poker run registration and conduct hotel check-in.
Friday night will be the famous pre-poker run party (which has caused more than one entrant to unfortunately miss Saturdays run!).
Saturday morning will be the drivers meeting and the 2007 SCOPE poker run. Courses will consist of a "short" course along the California coast line and a "long" course, which includes a trip over to world famous vacation destination, Santa Catalina Island.
Saturday night will consist of the awards ceremony/dinner.
Sunday will be open to open water cruising at will and loading of poker run boats at any of the numerous local launching ramps.
Scope is pleased to announce proceeds from the 2007 poker run will go to local charity "friends of the Long Beach Firefighters".
Whether you plan on driving your boat in the poker run, riding along as a passenger or simply viewing the impressive start through the picturesque Long Beach Harbor, SCOPE welcomes all. With participation well over 150 boats in recent years, SCOPE is hoping for another great turn out and another safe and joyous event for all involved.
See you on the water."
Here's some pics from previous years to get you all fired up!
So who's in!!??

I don't want to hear any crying about your boat being too small either:D :D . I ran this run a couple of times in a 24' Baja Outlaw with out any problems....There's a short course (along the coast to Newport) for people that don't want to run all the way out to Catalina.

Small.....I'll give ya small, how about running it in a 21' with the drive trim stuck, no VHF radio, no GPS. If we don't show up at dinner - call the Coast Guard, we're floating South, lol

This run is a blast, even in a small boat. :)

I have a new motor going in, but still using Lightning headers. Last time, three months later the Lightnings let go and I ended up with some agua in the cylinders.
I guess Lightning's are a no-no in salt?
The run is a blast, I can't believe all the pusseez with decent size boats who are skeered. It's just salt...with a current...and swells...and sharks...and oil tankers...and telephone pole thingies sticking up out of nowhere...and fog...and fat seals.....all the things which make for a memorable day out! :)

S.C.O.P.E. seems like a very cool organization with some kick ass events. if i had a house and boat dock in so cal i would be all over that. i would get an outerlimits and go to catalina island all the time. by the time all that happens for me though i will be an old man but at least i will have a 70' sunseeker yacht to pimp up and down the coast. i luv watching the cig vidz on scopes site. they are high quality vidz shot from a helicopter and show you how well these boats go full throttle from LA to catalina island in the swells. not all 4 foot swells flow the same in the different coastal regions of america and so some boating locations with similar size swells will provide for a better ride (softer landings) than others. from what i can see in the vidz on their site the direction of water flow in that area with the spacing and timing of the swells provides for the ideal consistent airtime with minimal risk and drama. i look forward to boating there someday. before i officially retire and get a sunseeker when i am 65 years old i have at least one more boat to get. i basically want to get the biggest boat i can tow down the road with a ford F-450/650 or some truck like that. i am always considering what my next boat will be in the future and every year my choice changes. right now its a 38' donzi ZX. i would tow that to LA and boat to catalina island and back but you won't find me racing that boat....... just alot of partying and having a good time. i would bet that a well sorted out outerlimits could beat a CIG in a race to catalina and back because the way the swells flow. now if i lived in florida my $$$ would be on the cig, but i would go for an apache and do some 100+ mile distance runs in the atlantic. the cig is a great all around boat and they have the hottest look in spades on the water but at the end of the day i can always find a reason for another boat than a cig.......

I see some posts about "smaller" boats... but I say "Don't miss the Event of The Summer"!!! There are two courses. The short course runs along the beach and still collects all 5 cards. And.... during the ski race, we ran with a '21 outboard all the way to Catalina and back.
