My parents live in Boulder City Nv. There are always big horns all over the place. You literally have to drive around them somtimes. This is at a park a few blocks down the street from their home. I started to count them and I stopped at 50+...LOL.
I took these pix last week. Enjoy.

Damn, the penalty for killing one of those is probably death! That's worse than knocking down a sagauro cactus.....:D :D
Pretty wild to see such a scarce animal hanging out at a local highschool

And not too many years ago, one Federal Agency came in and moved about 37 of them to Texas. They must multiply like rabbits...

Last time we went through the dam, there were quite a few of them right off the side of the road in the construction areas. They must know they are in an area where they can't be hunted.;) Not to mention in Az. a resident is allowed to take one Big Horn in a lifetime, that's if you ever get drawn for one. Not sure about Nevada's policy.

There are bunches of them up in the Buckskin Mountains.
A few years ago a big ram wandered down into Buckskin Valley. It was breedng season, and he saw his reflection in the side of a resident's Cadillac in a carport. Thought it was another ram and proceeded to butt heads with it for about an hour.
Needless to say, the Cadillac's owner was none too pleased.

I'd like to try a hummingbird but can never catch those darn things! This little guy likes to hang around beaverretriever's parents' backyard.

Lucky I have seen these sheep, in this park. They are not your type. They have horns and like to butt heads. Stay with your own pack that have wool and like to butt butts. You'll be disappointed with this model sheep even though at first glance the handles may look attractive to you.

That is neat! Isn't it crazy that they can climb such rugged terrain?
It would only take me two seconds on that before I'd tumble and eat dirt!

You can hear them approach, their hooves are hard as rocks and sound like rocks smacking together, they can climb a sheer rock.

desert BIGhorn sheep are a class 3 endangered species. the do better in certain locations of their natural indegenous environments then others. we have them around here in tucson but the herd is failing. back in the 50's and 60's they used to follow the washes off the mountains down into what is now the tucson city limits. the colorado river provides the best hope for them and their #'s are increasing there. the california condor program is doing very well too. i have seen BIGhorns at 4 different lakes in arizona including havasu. BIGhorn sheep have telescoping 8X vision like your average set of binoculars do. when they look far away they can zoom their vision in to 8X and when they look close up to the ground they zoom back out to 1X. this is why they prefer to stand on cliffs because there vision makes them feels safe. the males have a softball mass of gel like fuid that resides on the top rear of their skull that acts as a shock absorber so when they butt heads the do not get concussions. their skulls are literaly like 3-4 times thicker than a deer skull and their head and horns weigh like 3-4 times more than a deers head and antlers. they live to be about 12-13 years old and they don't drop their horns annualy like deer shed their antlers. as a result you can count the growth rings on the their horns like you would a tree to tell their age. a camel while well adapted to sand dunes and major heat etc, does not have the hooves that desert big sheep have for climbing cliffs.
