OK I know this is a real big can of worms but I need some input. I run circles in the jet boat, being I circle race and I am turning 5300 + rpms for more than 10min at a time. I also have a big 300 mile or 6hr race coming up. So to help the engine live thought the remaining 3 races my wife has agreed to let me get a new pan. I am also running an oil cooler that holds almost 1qt.
All three fit with no clearance problems
This is the pan I have on the truck;

This is a typical jet pan;

Make sure whatever you use, it has a screen type windage tray/device. The solid, louvered type are typicly worse than nothing at all.

Have Armando build you a pan.
Thats what I just got.
Lakes Only suggested I go there. Some one he knows who is long time racer and motor builder was very impressed with the Armando pan when he saw it. Was cheeper than the dooley too.

My BAD!!!! I always treat my oiling system as a heart of the motor. Spend money where its important............:idea:

On a Stef's pan we will never win when it comes to price. Bottom line is we do not start with an OEM or aftermarket core pan that supplies the building block of the pan with pan rails and seal radiuses. Stef's hand fabricates 100%of the pan. On our steel stuf we use heavy gauge steel that will last years in marine application. Ask any of the engine builders that use our pans, you can use them as an engine stand.
You also get the benefits of R&D by professional race teams. Our work with professional teams results in technology showing up in our pans in following years. The oil pan is one of the few non moving parts in an engine that if not properly matched to the engine it can destroy a high $$$ engine.
Armando, Dooley, Milidon, Moroso, Charlies, Kevko, Champ, hell I can go on all make good products, all I can do is tell you what we make at Stef's and how we make it. It is your $$ and you spend it how you think is in your best interest.

I would never down talk a stef's pan, it's just that after loseing two motors with dooley's back to back in 2002 and never ever scuffed a bearing with a armando (avaid) I'am pretty sold. Would still perfer two have a Olsen alum or a Billet Fab. but the money doesn't justify it if I'am not haveing problems now. We have a 50lb dummy light in the boat and with the dooley it flashed in every turn. With the armando it has never even flashed.

So I was selling stuff at the Long Beach Swapmeet. Some little mexican guy and his wife stopped and started asking me about weld bungs. I asked if he made tanks. He said "I make oil pans".
So I of course said you must be Armando.
Yes I am, how did you know he asked?? So I told him he is famous in the v drive boat world for his oil pans. Hearing that made his day and his wife was beaming with pride also. It was pretty cool to see.
I'd think that Stef's has more acess to more technology then just about everone else. It shows in their product, set one side by side with a Dooley pan and you tell me.

one could only assume that with a statement like that, your running dry sump with a 15 qt. tank.

You're not going to get any better than Stefs, bar none, but like everything else, (and everyone else) there's usually a budget involved, and what's "reasonable" for a given application. When you have a $500 bottom end, it's hard to justify an $800- $1000 pan, but when you're trying to get that budget engine to last through some pretty gruling duty, a good oil pan/system is a must. There are plenty of products out there, just depends on how much research you want to do, and what you're willing to settle for, and spend.

Not true my friend. why spend $300 on a milodon when you can get alot more detail in a custom pan for double? For some that means an extra day of overtime and others just slide the card:D Whne you buy a custom pan it comes with everything! Ask Chris and he will tell you what his pans come with......
Thats a bargain to me,.....

My choise has been made, I can not afford or justify one for $1000 from Stephs, but I can work a few extra days for an Armondos 14qt custom pan for my boat. I wish I could.

don't lose any sleep over your choice. there more than a couple of those pans bolted to the bottom of 1000 h.p. boat motors with zero problems.
