Run up on this big boy basking in the sun on my way home from work today. The only thing that keep me from popping his ass was that I was still on company property. Highly Flammable Chemicals and 45's dont mix.The scary thing is that last Thurs and Fri there were surveyors in shorts and 6" hiking boots parked directly to the right side of where he was at. I stopped and told them they were crazy because there was some grown rattle snakes on this island and there response was "We will only be on the side of the road, we aren't going in the woods." The summer is still young and there will be many more. We see 15 to 20 a year on this 3/4 mile road.

Took them safely from the drivers seat. I did have a shovel but the handle needed to be about 10 feet longer for me to challange him.

If they would only eat mosquitoes. We have some as bis as hummingbirds and feel like wasp when they bite. he would have made one hell of a belt or some boots.

Well said...we have found them on several occasions out on Havasu beaches while boating even, and have never had a problem. My hubby just moves them to a safer location.

I somewhat agree. He nevered coiled to strike or rattled until I ran him off the road and he couldnt get through the chainlink fence. He was only able to get about 12" of his head through the fence but the rest was too big. This pissed him off and he let me know that he was pissed so I new it was time to let him have some space. I hate snakes but I usually dont kill them unless they are near my yard where my dogs would be harmed. The only reason I would have killed this one is for the hide and meat. I have a neighbor who would eat every bit of meat available and also took the skin for making some wearables. He pays by the pound. :) I dont support killing animals for the thrill unless it is an armadillo. I kill everyone that I see and can kill. I have killed 33 from my yard in 3.5 years. 22 rifle with laser, 0 to 20yds just point and shoot. The rich soil of my manicured yard is full of earthworms and this is their favorite food source.

That is a pretty snake. Eastern Diamondbacks are great looking snakes. I'm glad you didn't kill it. I've also seen 100s of rattlesnakes of several different types and I have yet to see one that was the least bit aggressive. Most of them take quite a bit of abuse before they even try to defend themselves. The only times I have killed them is if they were already seriously injured or if they were in a populated area with lots of kids around. Other than that, I just look at them and leave them alone.

you know, they make shot shells for the 45 acp. would take care of the snake without the 190 grain slug flyin' 'round the old chemical plant.:D

Thats the truth. I hate them nasty bastu*ds. I got 4 acres w/ small stables and horse feeders. You can hotsy the shiit out of them and in a week they are right back in the corners. We were scared to death of them at first, now we laugh at whoever gets bit. I did get pretty sick the day I got it twice though. Me and the boy went on a widow "elimination mission" one day. I had the poison, he had his paintball gun. I collected 34 that I sprayed in a jar. That don't count the ones he splattered. Took about 2 hours to get that many. One was almost 2" long with them damn nasty legs strecthed out. I joked I was going to have it mounted.
I don't get armadillos, but each spring we have "skunk erradication week". It starts when we see the first one out in the field. Got 7 in one night once. Could have got more but had to flee the smell.
My weapon is a single shot pellet gun w/ scope. Deadly within 50' with the pointy pellets.
