I am looking at a nice used 2004 Hallett 210 with a 350 Mercruiser with a Whipple. Any advice on the reliability of that motor setup? The build looks really clean, but the Whipple scares me a little when it comes to a boat that I really want to need a minimum amount of maintenance. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Bump
What is the speed on the 210? Never seen a 350/Whipple combo in one, a unique package for sure. Bravo drive?

Bravo 1 and they are claiming 79mph on GPS,

Better call for insurance before you make an offer. May be a little more than you think.

500 hp and under in a v bottom isn't too rediculous ins. price wise.

State Farm and AAA were willing to insure my 210 upt o 750hp (maybe more?) without issue. As long as it didn't have those wicked "pipes" according to both companies. Nope, none of those.

Whadda ya think bordsmn - was the Whipple easy to maintain?

I think the forced induction and speed over 75 will hurt his rates.

Maybe, depends who he uses.
My 210 with a 550hp/85mph boat is $800 yr (State Farm) and is included in my $1m liability. Like I said before, I was thinking of going with a blower motor - 750hp/100+mph, and they didn't bat an eye. All they seemed focused on was the style hull (vee), pipes and whether or not the motor was covered by a hatch. I told them about a blower, they could care less and and asked how many HP. Since the HP was not on their charts, they checked with corporate and called back a few days later, quoted $800, no horsepower limit, motor completely covered if I could prove the value with receipts.
But I stuck to a NA 550/hp motor and the rate still didn't change.
What are you paying on your boat in AZ?

When did you first get the policy? A lot of these big hp boats were grandfathered into coverage a few years back and if you renew you are cool but if you sell the new guy is hosed. A buddy of mine went through this when he bought his dads blown Schiada a few years ago.
I pay just under $300 per year with $500k on the Cobalt. My 2004 Ultra was $800 per year with a 496 and 70 MPH top speed.
