BIG discussion at work about Ford Powerstroke MPG.
One of the guys just bought a new 08 Powerstroke F250 4x4 Crew Cab Lariat, fully loaded and lifted with 20" wheels.
What kind of MPG are folks getting with the new Powerstroke, especially lifted & 4x4?
I'm saying around town and local freeway that rig is going to crappy MGP just like a big V8 gas motor. Others tell tales of averaging 17-20 mpg around town.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

those guys getting 17-20 mpg are full of shit. as was said 12-15 you might see 17-20 on the freeway if you keep it under 60 unloaded.

My 2002 F350 7.3 I get around 12-15 around town on the Highway I have gotten the best of 18. My son has a 97 F-250 7.3 2wd he gets about the same around town but gets about 17-20 on the highway depending on how he drives, and he has 4.10 gears.

stock diesels get decent milage if you keep them stock and stay in the 60 MPH range. My Duramax LLY w/ 6sp allison with 38's was averaging 10.5 on the computer read out, so with the speedo error, probably 11-11.5. My LBZ w/ 37's is getting slightly better.

When I said 12-15 that is on my 08 F450 the f250 may be getting better because of weight but I dont think it would be that much better. My old truck witch was an 05 F350 would get around 15-17. But I will say this the more miles I get on the truck the better it seems and also the power seems to be getting better to.

I have an 06 F250,3'' lift, 35 tires, cat back 4'' and get a solid 15.5 MPG CITY with a little frwy mixed in. On the hwy I get 19, towing I get 14.5. Also have the Superchip set at economy 80HP bump.

(All)...the new Diesels are down on the MPG numbers. Thanks to all the emissions crap now covering the engines. Don't believe the high BS numbers.

I've heard reports that the new trucks don't get the mileage that the older trucks get. My 02 7.3 dually 2WD, manual with 4.30 gears got 15.5 stock, with a 4 inch exhaust, air induction kit, and Edge tuner it is getting 20.1 on the country roads and hwy under 60. If i run it up to 70 i drop back to 16.2. If I tow my 30' horse trailer (19000 lbs combined weight) I drop to 11 at 70 and can still see 13.4 at 60. If I keep the truck, I'll add an aftermarket overdrive and I expect to see 24 under 60mph and over 20 at 70mph.

My '04 Excursion 6.0 got 14.2 long term average according to the computer. I never reset it.
My new '08 F250 6.4 is getting 11.8 on the computer after 3,400 miles.
What really sucks is that the Ex had a 44 gallon tank, and the F250 has a 30 gallon tank. I used to go a little more than two weeks between fillups in the Excursion, now I'm stopping once a week.

I hear ya. My last Suburban had a 43 gallon tank and my 06 duramax duallie has a 32gal. Sucks!! I'm getting 14-16 around town most of the time and I can get 20mph highway if I keep it under 65mph, which rarely happens. I got 12mpg going to Powell from PHX and 15mpg coming back towing our boat, 7500lbs.

30 gallons on a f250? I swear mine is 38 and the wifes ex is a 44 - is yours a shortbed?
Also the excursion 6.0 runs about 14 on the computer deal and the f250 runs around 13-17 (7.3) depending on the foot...

2000 Excursion PSD (7.3L) with 3.73:1 gears. Lifetime average calculated (not off the mileage computer) is 15.5 mpg. Towing 5000 lbs at 65 mph nets 13 on average. Worst I've seen was 12 mpg towing. Freeway is 16-18 mpg with a best of 20.1 mpg from SAN to LAS doing 70-75 mph with cruise and AC on. Again those are all hand calculated numbers topping off the tank each time (to the top of the filler neck).

I have a 2001 F350 4x4 and tow a 35' Fountain Lightning, combined weight of about 20K and the best I have seen is 14-15 mpg towing from the L.A. area to Havasu 320 miles.

You are doing slightly better than me. My 08 6.4 F350 4X4 computer states roughly 11.5-11.7. I am running 37" Toyos though. I am just ahead of you on the miles at 4200.
My 03 7.3 F250 4X4 would get, on average, 17-18 mpg with 35's but 85-90% of those miles were freeway. I sure miss those extra MPGs...

There's a few uphills along the way that prevent coasting. But that was the best mileage I've ever seen and your research explains why.

I have an '01 excursion 4x4 with a 7.3L I get about 13-14 around town and almost 19 on the highway, not towing anything. When I'm towing the boat (21' footer) i can still get about 15 and change..towing the toy box in the winter, though, i'm back down to 13..but it pulls so nice i don't even care ...

07 f-250 10" lift, 38" tires, 10.6 mpg. That's with a programmer that corrects for tire size. I also only have 5k miles so it's not broken in yet. I didn't buy the truck for fuel mileage but I honestly thought it would at least get in the teens.

Suppose it all depends on what kind of rental car they give you while your truck is in the shop, with the cab on the lift, so they can even get to the engine/tranny. :D :D :D :D
Sorry, it was just too easy of a setup to pass up. :D

That's why I loved my stock 95 PSD F250; 235/85-16 tires, all stock, and 22 mpg highway. If I was towing 10k lbs worth of travel trailer it got 10-12. Why did I ever sell that thing?

I have an 06 F350 6.0l with 3.73 gears. I get 18 mpg if I keep my foot out of it and keep the air pressure up in the tires. :D

If you GPS your truck in stock form, you will find your speedo is over driven 2-3 mph, some say it's to get the truck out of the warranty quicker, but who knows why. I put 33-1050's on my truck the speedo is nut on now, best Interstate Ive seen is 19.2, best hwy is 22.5, commute to work is 17.9 I have srw 2001 F-350 4X4 auto w/3.73 ratio, it's for the most part stock, except for the Edge w/attitude, 2 inch front spring lift, 33's, and Ford AIS air filter system w/fender well cut out. Now towing my Southwind I get 15.6 if I keep it under 70mph.
