It's where I live.. :) What do you want to know? Good places to eat? Get a drink? etc??
When are you going to Sea World. There's a place right over there called "Paradise Point" and you should definately goto the barefoot bar for lunch and a drink. :) you'll love it.

Ponto beach is great for kids. Exit off the 5 at Poinsettia and go back south about 2 miles. Parking is $8
Sea World is crazy crowded and hot. Be there at 8:45 and do the big coaster and then the Shamu show first or forget it. Wear a hat and SPF 50. You can take in a back pack with supplies and they have lockers. Food is crazy expensive. We bought everything there and it adds up.
If your kids are between 4 and 8 be sure to go to Lego Land (very close to La Costa). Better than sea world for them IMO.
Go tour the Midway Air craft carrier down by sea port village. This was the best day of the week. It is just phenomenal. Then walk or take a rick-shaw around the corner to the fish market for lunch.
Last, the 5 is always jammed just south of la Costa for about 8 miles and adds about 20 minutes to your trip up and down the 5 if you are going south of Del Mar. Jakes in Del Mar is good and so is the next door place called the beach house.

My brother is GM of the bronze foundry that sculpted the "Bob Hope" sculptures by the Midway!! About 20 figures depicting different "jobs" of the miltary-most not getting any noteriety-like cooks, mp's, grunt soldiers, etc... All "surrounding" Bob Hope.
Check it out!!
