You wouldn't know it by our media down here, but according to this USFS map, the northern Rockies are literally burning up. The Brush Creek Fire is now less than a mile from our friend's cabin that we were just up visiting 3 short weeks ago. It looks like it will very likely burn and they have already evacuated. 6 summers of sweat, hope and dreams into the place. It is just heartbreaking. :cry: :cry: We met many wonderful people up there and I am tearing up knowing they will probably lose their homes. Really, their only hope is rain.
Here is the map with all of the current active fires

Here is their beautiful little cabin; it's not even finished yet :(

This really sucks. I hope they get some rain or the wind works in their favor. It seems the northwest always gets hit hard with dry lightning fires this time of year. Then it subsides and CA gets it with the dry Santa Anas. Everything is so dry this summer/fall is gonna suck. I'm only thankful that the 03 Grand Prix fire burned to my back wall and there's not much left to burn this year here. I hope your friends home is spared as mine was then.

SW here;
I talked to Our freind who is building the cabin late last night. She was in Salt lake city air port waiting for a flight to Kelispell. She is an arson investagator and career fireman. She had one bag of luggage.... Her Brush gear.
It brings a tear to my eye, because I know her like a sister, she will put herself in danger to save that cabin. No amount of reason will change her mind. I was not a bit worried about the cabin as its insured for replacement cost and then some. She assembled her own volunteer army of Hot Shots and is going up to cut her own defensive lines. Locals in her area are almost all volunteer firemen when a fire starts. On our trip I saw homes that had privately owned brush trucks. I asked what they where and she said " Up here everyone is a fire fighter.... You have to be."
The spirit of community up there rivals any I have seen any where. Through phone calls She was able to have the entire conents of the Cabin and shop removed and taken to a safe location... Everything, not just valubles... Every item she wanted removed. The locals then installed addition pumps and routed sprinkler lines that feed from her creek and have saturated the entire property and buildings. They have located a fire saftey product, I believe called "barrier" and took it up to the site. Last night she even said the guy I bought the plumbing material from was rounding up a pump that would support fire hoses and more volunteers to go up to good creek and save houses.
Montana fire resourse are stretched thin, Lets pray for the locals that fill in the gaps that the pros can not. Houses can be rebuilt, lives can not. Right now everyone in Montana is a fire fighter.
