Well some of you know my daughter Amanda. She is racing in her first race ever in a J Hydro this weekend at Long Beach. She is no stranger to going fast and is fully capable of handling just-about anything thrown her way. But it seems she is going nuts with antisipation. She will be testing tomorrow with Ron Hill at Lake Irvine. Those that don't know what a J class Hydro (kneeldown) is, it is the same as an A Hydro, 15hp OB, special prop and restrictor plate.
The record for the class is about 37mph. She would like to thank a few people here for helping her full fill her dream.

Oh no now you guys are going to have competitions of which events to go to!
Amanda is way too smart for her age. I wish her luck! I'm sure she'll be capable of impressing alot of people. I remember my first race at 11 I was getting better reaction time than my father was:D . Wait til she's old enough for a big boat, she'll give you a run! lol.
Let me know how it goes, good luck

where is this lake in irvine that you can run boats on?
Its a small lake, they used to have drag boat races there years ago until a spectator was killed, I believe that it is a private lake and they usualy only let fishing boats on the water. To get there take the 5 north to the 55 north get off on chapman ave east and just keep going untill you see the singns, its close to cooks corner.

you may want to stop off at cook corner for a cold drink, nice little watering hole. does anyone know the name of the steak house just up the highway? they raise their own beef and serve the BEST damn steaks ever. just make sure you wear a tie when you walk in. :D

Thank you all, when Mana gets off school I will have her read this. She has a ton of work to do before the race. She still has got to get her boat ready, and I just unloaded it from the truck. It is a 9 year old Dawe Craft that has been sitting along side someones house. She has got to totally strip the gear clean, lube and reinstall. She also has to put #s and graphics on the boat. We are leaving here tomarrow afternoon for Long Beach.

The people behind actions like this, Ernie Dawe building these little screamers, Ron Hill perfecting the props to an absolute science, and both of them promoting boat racing with every breath. It is people like this that have endured the ups and downs, the joy and the heartbreaks, been the heros and the goats, and kept this great sport alive over decades of devotion. I know a little background here, and thanks to all that helped this little princess acheive her dream.............Good luck Amanda, see you and your crew at the beach.........Ray

She look great on Wednesday during testing, when we first put her in one of these boats. On Saturday she looked like a seasoned pro. In the first heat she was at 3/4 throttle to start, she literally blistered the course lapping all but one of her competitors. In the second heat they chose to put a throttle stop and add 10lbs to her boat. She did not have as much speed but she showed she could drive. Man that kid systematically picked off one kid at a time, passing on the inside when safe and giving others tons of room and passing on the outside. She won the second heat with a 20 boat lead. She was on cloud 9, starting to get a little cocky. Sunday was when I saw the true charactor and poise of my daughter. Sunday mornings first heat she had kill switch problems, salt water is bad stuff. She was loosing power intermitantly she placed fourth in that heat. In the second heat on Sunday in the middle of the first turn her fuel line got pinched, she kept it somewhat on plane and limped it down the backstretch of the course going two laps down and when she went into turn 2 and she was back at full song. I blame myself for that. The good thing was she just held the throttle open moved off to the side of the course and kept going. When she came in she was bombarded with a camera guy asking questions. Yes she was pissed and never showed how her true feelings to the camera guy, and she handled that much better than her mentor Tony Stewart ever does. We got to the pits and she was hunting for the cause. She proved herself to be a true competitor, she even congratulated the winner at the ramp. She came home with a 3rd Place Overall Trophy, which she is very proud of.

Amanda had a kill switch problem first heat Sunday and a pinched fuel line on the second heat Sunday.
She sure did drive the piss out of that Herbie hydro Saturday though.
She is a winner in my book for the way she handled herself Sunday.
