View Full Version : fuel pump or not?

I have a 2002 5.7L Mag in my boat. This past weekend the water pump
impeller went out while on the water. After shutting engine off to let cool
down the engine would not restart. I depressed the schrader valve on the
fuel rail with the key in on position and got only air and trickles of fuel. After
getting boat out of water and sat for 1 day I attached a fuel pressure gauge
and got 25 psi with key in on postion and 20 psi while engine running. When
reving engine gauge would hit about 27 psi and go back to 20 psi right away.
My question is due I have a fuel pump concern or does the computer put
engine into limp mode due to no water flow through engine caused by a faulty water pump impeller. Any suggestion would help. Thanks.

Don't know about the fail safe deal but seems to me that the pump relay would be OFF or ON and therefore the pump too. My experience with EFI is 25psi is too low. Try your gauge on someone else setup that is similar to yours.
