Thought I would start a topic on if you owned or own a Mercury 300 pro max or 300x and how many problems or blown motors have you had ? I personaly have had the reeds replaced 3 times and the lower end 1x. Lets hear your stories. Good or Bad :)

I have an Evenrude 35. I know its not a 300 but it's still been a sweet motor. We call it old reliable because it's got 1500 hours on it and still works great. It's pushing my 28 Eliminator quite nicely. So far I have done 6 MPH on GPS but my Butt O Meter is thinking its done about 7.5 in good water and nice weather.

looks like your getting all kinds of serious answers to your question there Mr. Screaming Pete  At 30 hours ours has been flawless, other than the choke arm vibrating off once(a 10mm wrench and some locktight fixed that!) allways starts right up, and idles perfect. Does use a ton of gas though :D I think the smartcraft gauge said something like 400 and something gallons sofar....at 2-3 bucks a gallon...ouch

Single X w/40 hrs. At 30, a sensor wire came loose shredding the alt. belt which had to be dealt with but other than that no complaints.

I had a ProMax 300 and well over 300 hrs with 0 problems, it's still running great in Texas. Now have the X and running great trouble free.
Have only run Merc Hi-Pro oil and AV gas. :)

Pardon my ignorance on this issue, but what exactly is the difference between the Pro Max and the 300x? I assume the 300x is the higher horsepower motor, but why? Thanks in advance.

Yes he does!
I wish there was somebody out here in the sticks that could paint half that good! Are guys all seem to have been trained by Earl Shrib or Macco! (However you spell those company's names, but you get the point)

On the same boat, same setup, same prop, I ran 15mph faster with the X.

I was running the merc Hi-po oil. Smokes more than others, but the hours do not lie! The big difference between the Pro Max and the X is the Fuel injection and oil pump set up.

Hi!
Blew a powerhead on my PM 300 after 225 hrs due to the crank was off balance. Got new on extended warranty. Now 100 hours on new powerhead. No problems.
Blew one Fleetmaster Lowerunit due to high propsetting. Swapped to Torquemaster. No problems since.
Have had some injector issues. Balanced them twice to get the proper plug readings.
Nice engine. Will buy a PM 300X next year or 2 x Merc 2.5 EFI's.
Cheeers, Toffen G
