IHBA & SDBA RAce's (which are where my pic's are from)
We Start from a dead stop hanging on a rope.
WE race a GPS measured 1/4 mile.
We race bracket race for ET's (12 second, 11 second, 10 second, ect.) Any motor, any weight, any type of Boat!
Anybody can race as long as they have all the correct saftey gear!
There will be two race's (IHBA) down your way in Oct.) Check out schedules at http://www.ihbaracing.com/
Or in the south at http://www.sdbaracing.com/
Come on down!
Ya got an outboard?
If ya want to race only outboards and race from a rolling start, Photo finish, Weight restrictions, motor restrictions, fuel restrictions, But a lot of fun! check out http://www.odbaonline.com/

21' Eliminator daytona! That is one fine ride with an Outboard (or whatever on back)! I had a Liberator (Daytona Splash) and it was the best boat by far, I have ever owned! Great in Big water, Fast as hell once you get thier big butt's out of the water! Great party boat (mine had seating for seven). Good looking and real safe!
Two thumbs up to the Daytona!
When I buy another lake boat it will be either a Daytona or Liberator or a Cougar 21'! smile_sp

Comp flats like Jeff Martins 146 boat are running deep deep 7's.

BTW, my 1974 Hondo was running 8.0's when I hung up my drag racing days. How many cubic inches was that? Not enough to be an unlimitted that's for sure. I think I was making around 35K a year back then. My racing was pretty low buck. So how much money do you think is tied up in an unlimmited wacker engine?

You Te
08-20-2003, 11:07 AM
SD013,
The distance is 20 to 30 ft. mostly closer to 20 ft. in gear idle not over 1600 RPM.
They use a barge and a guy makes sure the boats are paired up.
Unlimited boats have a minium weight of 1300 lbs with driver and fuel.
So if you make a pass and win you better have enough fuel for the next pass no refueling.
A boat may start out at closer to 1400lbs depending on how big the feild is.
The same boat could run in the 1100lbs range, with drive and fuel but not in the ODBA.
So could your old flatty get spanked by an outboard, most likely YES.
So can big blocks spank an outboard, sure, they just need lots of horse power to do it.
You Te

superdave013
08-20-2003, 11:19 AM
You Te,
WOW that is a short distance.
Oh I know there is some outboards the could spank that old flat. I don't think any from 1974 would be doing it though. lol
Now that STV in the top pic looks to be running an IHBA or SDBA event as it's racing a jet.
What's that boat's e.t. at an IHBA style start?

2allbeefpatties
08-20-2003, 12:36 PM
There is no way an outboard is going to beat a hard charging flatbottom. Outboards dont leave the line hard at all and big block motors make way more power. The only an outboard has going for it is the weight.

Keep in mind that it is bigger cubic inch. Hey, you guys are the ones that choose to go small. :D

I know I go round and round with the wacker guys but I have to give then credit where credits due. Open a box, bolt engine to back of daytona. Now you have a hard running boat that will run all season (and more) with a warrenty. That's hard to beat.

SD013,
The motor in the 1976 boat looks to be a Hemi I would guess the stock 425 CI or maybe the stock 392 CI but I would be willing to bet it's over 500 CI in that boat. It should run 200+ miles per hour.

That Quartermaster belongs to a friend of mine and his dad,Travis and Gary Tutle.Travis was an employee of mine for quite a while.Travis's dad is a long time circle boat racer and Travis also has made quite a few laps.Their motor is a nitrous fed 2.5 litre Mercury and has run some high 8.80's in the 1/4. I've run Mirage's for several years, but jet propelled.Well if any of you clamp-on guys want to see how bad you really are, just show up at our little cookout the first weekend in October.Check out the topic about the Lake Whitney bash.Travis is usually their and so is Marty Logan along with about a gozillion other outboard guys. The fastest 2 boats down here last year was my Mirage jet with a little baby motor with 1 carb and a little juice and a blown alky injected Cougar tunnel with a V-drive that belongs to Infomaniac. It is much bad.All you got to do is come git-u-sum.
