Well. I have to chime in...I give my buddy Billy allot of heat about price and time it takes and on and on..But I got to tell ya that when it comes to custom paint, he is one if the best I have ever seen. I know some of the best. Billy constantly questions himself about price and time, and he hates to hear that he charges too much, and I don't blame him. When you get done with one and you've lived with it for six months you look at the hours you had on it and you always say the same thing..."I can't charge him for all the hours, he'll have a shit fit". So you compromise and charge accordingly. Billy and Jerry..it is beautiful, something to be very proud of..

Well said RCL anybody that has ever tried to "do it yourself" can truly appreciate the amount of work that goes into a paint job like that. I'm not saying that a do it yourselfer could ever do something like that, but it does give you an idea. PS I love the pic of used tape rolls awsome

I have a question for you Jerry and all you other B boat guys. About the bottom. Those don't look like lifting strakes or are they and I just can't tell from the picture. Rather they look like fins. Is this to help the boat turn when you bury the pedal and track straight when you bury the other pedal?
I was told by Carson that my Mandy had lifting strakes on it at one time. The previous owner asked Carson to put them on in an effort to reduce wetted surface. Carson said he took one ride in the thing when they were done and he put it back on the trailer, hauled it to the shop and ground them off
Great looking boat though.

Its my understanding that they're for packing air under the boat. I believe when combined with the dropped chines it aids in rocking the boat back on its tail. The height of cavitation plate "gulls" help determine how much air is trapped (to raise the bow) and how much is released (lowering the bow).
Remember, I'm just the camera guy who doesn't know shit and default all questions to Wildchild80.:)

When I heard about this boat in washington from circlejerk, they said it was a real Honcho Flatbottom (1 of 3). It had been painted over but some of the original metalflake was visible
I went up there to shoot their race and couldn't argue with the HIN. It read HONCHO75 the boat was for sale so I made a deal.
This boat is the sister ship to the one we took the design from. 2 out of 3 of the original Honcho flatbottom boats were flake. When I stripped it down and uncovered its original design it was very similar but we had no pictures or anything and a lot of the disign was lost in stripping.
On the other hand, we had lots of pics and home movies of the other one so we went with it.

Billy B is a genius; we know that.
There was a fellow who came to work for us at Jones/ Starfire in Seattle who did work like this in metalflake gel coat. I have never seen the like. He was an amazing character. He got his start working in CA for Sanger. Who ever heard of four color metal flake gel coat?

Thanks EVERYONE for the complimates on Jerry's ride. I never would of guessed when we started this project it would get this type of response. Jerry was kinda "Ah it looks alright", and it was really bothering me when he'd leave the shop cause he just didn't seem like he was very enthused about it. I kept telling him it would really come to life once it was cleared but it still didn't seem to help him out. Then came last Friday and on our way down to Long Beach we went by to see it cleared. When I took the inspection panel out into the sun light the look on Jerry's face made this all worth it. He can finally see light at the end of the tunnel on this step of the project and it's been alot of fun duplicating it (as close as I could remember) this for him. Thanks again everyone. Anyone up for doing the "Withers & Primm Special"?.

Are there any pics? Maybe, I bought a Shark from Flatmvn and will have it ready for paint in about a year. Seems like it may take that long to save the cash for an incredible paint job like the Honcho boat.
By the way, I have understood from the start that this project was meant to bring this boat back to it's original glory unlike some who haven't kept up with the project.
Great job Billy and Jerry,

Hey Jerry the boat came out great!!! I bet you can't wait to put that thing together.
Great job on the paint Billy. I can't even imagine the time and talent that goes into one of your creations, let alone trying to re-create somebody else's masterpiece.
