To my mind, Bilgie does not, and likely could not, compete with the darkness Ibex brings to the table. To know the work of Ibex is to know Satan exists. One day soon, we will all be dead and I have no doubt, that is one of the few things that brings a smile to Ibex' face. Ibex brings dark genius to a new level.
Bilgie, on the other hand, brings quite a bit to the table that Ibex does not. Bilgie's work is easily the equal of Ibex, to my mind, but in a completely different genre of satire. Mr. Idiot's characatures don't put people down nearly so far. He does it in a way that people even enjoy being cut a little.
To compare the two is like comparing blowjobs to handjobs. There exists no competition. The world is a better place for each man's contributions.

BI's work is graphically far superior to Ibex's, especially the animated work. Ibex was good with the captioning though.

Listen... 10 years from now, some new guy who is really funny and crystallizes the moment will wonder what the big deal about The Bilge Idiot was. Perhaps someone will bring forth some old BI material and people will yawn, "An orange and white boat spinning past some reeds. Who gives a shit?" Perhaps the media of the day will be video. Perhaps it will be something we aren't familiar with now. One thing you can be sure of, the 10 year old BI material will look dated.
The point is, the humor is in capturing the moment.... figuring out what is really going on and turning it into a picture that is a caricature of the situation. Ibex brought the satirical photoshop genre to this board and a few other boating message boards that are gone now or have morphed into something other than they were.
Back to the future... The new guys 10 years from now will crap on Bilgie but those of us who were around when Bilgie was the king of graphical satire will know. We will understand. We will maintain our respect for The Bilge Idiot... always. I know I will.
It's probably worth mentioning some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen has come from a number of people on these forums, not just The Bilge Idiot. Bilgie is definitely the head satirist of the moment but there are others.
I've always thought RiverToysJas was under-rated, satire wise. Jordy has kicked out some ass kicking chops too. Not to mention Rexone, 572D, and some others too.
None of this takes away from Bilgie. I tip my hat to him and offer my respect.
