IMO a serious lack of judgment here. Sketch a gun and get suspened from school! So I guess you cant have hunting or target shooting as a sport. So what if I drew a baseball bat? What a bunch of idiots, poor family.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — School officials suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching what looked like a gun, saying the action posed a threat to his classmates.
The boy's parents said the drawing was a harmless doodle and school officials overreacted.
"The school made him feel like he committed a crime. They are doing more damage than good," said the boy's mother, Paula Mosteller.
The drawing did not show blood, bullets, injuries or target any human, the parents said. And the East Valley Tribune reported that the boy said he didn't intend for the picture to be a threat.
Administrators of Payne Junior High in nearby Chandler suspended the boy on Monday for five days but later reduced it to three days.

If he would have drawn a cross would they have suspended him for prayer in a public school? Unreal how people think they are helping. I wonder how I made it out of school alive. No helmets, no child proof lids etc. I am speechless and sent of an e mail as well.

I emailed her, and gave her my support, and told her I would wait for the facts.
Sounds pretty bad in this article, but I'm sure there is more to it....the sad part is according to the parents the child is an angel!!!
My sister is an administrator in Norco, and the shit they have to put up with is beyond belief...

As the song says, it was a different world when we were kids.....

You're right, it is beyond belief.....but stupidity on the part of parents should not dictate how teachers react to, as reported, an innocuous situation.....

The family was on the local news last night and seemed like quality people. THey showed the picture and it was harmless. Guess you can't draw a bow and arrow either or walk into any toy store?

You know what I would be very worried about a 13 year old boy that did not draw guns and like. Then again when I was 10 I got in trouble for brining my 20 ga youth 1100 ( was a gift from my grandfather for my bday) for show and tell about the 3rd week of school.( I just grabed the case out of the closet and rode my bike to school with it :D )
Now days I'm sure I would have been expelled. All they did back then was walk me and it down to the office, where I got a talking too by the principal while my mother was called to pick it up. When I go home that was another story...

Just aired on Fox news
The school system claims the drawing was a threat, And all threats are punished.
Even aired a pic of the drawing.
Then had the nerve to tell the family. "Well you just moved here from CO and you should know better"

I sent the principal an email. It basically said that if the drawing was a cause for concern ( I haven't seen it nor do I know of it's surrounding circumstances), fine. Call the kid's parents, maybe even request a meeting to discuss her concerns, but suspension was not called for an I hope she thinks about it before doing something like this again. Her actions could haunt this kid until he gets out of college (If he can even get into one after this).
I am sure she would have loved the logo I drew up when I was about that age. I was racing R/C, and my logo was "Lethal Injection Racing" complete with a syringe bearing a skull and cross-bones......

Do you remember bring squirt guns to class:D :D :D
Maybe the NRA should get involved....like the NAACP did with Vick.
How do you teach the constitution without a picture of a gun. I guess its best to get your firearm education on the streets.
Maybe the child was interested in law enforcement...don't police carry guns?

Here's a picture of the "gun" he drew. If you ask me, the kid needs some f'kin art lessons if that's the best gun he can draw at 13. :notam:
