How are you guys cutting apart your oil filters for inspection ? Is there a tool I can buy ? I want to keep an eye on what's being deposited in them.

I have used tin snips before. There is a tool you can buy for cutting filters open, it works like a tubing cutter.

You can use needle nose pliars. Just poke a hole and twirl a strip with the pliars, like a sardine can.

The tool is much better though.
TIP, cut it as close to the top as possible, then lift the element out with the threaded part. Much cleaner and you have a "can" to set it back in.

Get rid of that filter and put on a System 1. Screens 100% of the oil, remove, disassemble, inspect, clean, reassemble, go boating. Repeat process as often as you feel necessary. Money well spent!;)

Yes it is, We've run them for years. I think Jegs sells them they make tall and short ones. Just pull it off when you get off the water inspect and put back on.

I was just talking with a buddy tonight about the system 1. Do they work that well ? Flitration is good ? Cleaning is easy ? Can you see what is coming out of your engine easily ? Will they work on my remote filters set up ? How long after cleaning can you put it back together (thinking about my K&N set up, gotta wait for it to dry b/4 reassembly) ? Thanks for the tips guys !

My brother and I have run them on the 565" Ford since '94 or '95. Very
user friendly. We ran dual remote filters for the extra 1 qrt. but one filter can handle more than you can give to it. Very easy to inspect and clean if you have any trash going through the engine you will be able to see it. This you ear we have changed a few things and are only running one remote filter.
You will be happy that you bought one or two.

Thanks sleeper and others ofr the info. I've only got a couple more runs b/4 the season ends up here in the N/W. I'll put that first on the winter list.
Wondering if I can use one on my PowerStroke ?
