I have a couple Castaic newb questions...
Thinking of trying the lake this weekend (dying to get wet, but no time to travel).
* Do they "close" the lake once a certain boat count is reached?
* How early should I get there to launch?
* East or West ramp both open? Which is better to use?
* How the ramp on summer weekends? Site Six deju vu'?
Thanks!

They do limit the amount of boats but you should have no problem getting on.
Get there by 10:00 am and you will never have a problem.
I always use the main ramp because there is more room for turning around.

yes they do close the lake after a certain amount of boats(don't know the exact number though)
when i go out on a Sunday (haven't been on a Saturday in forever so i dont know about that) I usually launch between 9:30 - 10:00 from the west ramp, never more then 2 people in line (maybe i'm just lucky) I also have a smaller boat 19' so that ramp isnt a problem, Main ramp is much bigger.
Rememeber that there is no alcohol allowed, so if you are going to bring some drinks be careful, and watch your speed for the most part, 35MPH.
They also say no swimming in the lake, but if you put on a vest and hang kinda close to your boat it is usually all good

haven't been turned away ever, as long as you are there before 10:00 am ...and I prefer west launch ramp, less idiots...they are strict on speed and absolutely no drinking, they will park on the beach and watch with binoculars, so camoflouge good...they will not buy the " I didn't know routine" and fine is hefty, so be careful...wedge:D :D :D
