I like to think that John has the better boat. I have seen the Cheyenne run in the teens with a aluminum 470 when Pisetti had the boat. He weighed a buck nothing though. I think the bottom lin here is if you dont have a couple solenoids and a 10lb bottle, dont show up.

(Given you are set up properly with your pump )It's not about tq, or hp, it's about usable power. My 467made 680 lbs/ft at 5500, but peak hp @ only 7100. The 470 may be down on tq compared to CS's engine, but if it can run up where the hp is, it dosen't matter. Power is power. Also, a jet dosen't have to pull through a power band like a v-drive...it basically goes to one rpm and stays there, but few jets turn 8 grand. With small displacement it's hard to build power in a usable rpm for jets, so more cubic inches (like CS's) is the answer. It's not because they make more power, they just make more torque at a lower rpm. Better usable power. Again, power is power, though. The gear reduction allows the smaller engine to operate at higher rpm where it makes more power, and lets the jet spin in it's lower rpm effeciency range.

I watched Brule in marble Falls go 2 tenths quicker in the heat. He ran 8.18 I believe. This PGJ back in 1998 and 99. They werent making the horsepower back then they are now.
I believe Zellmer had one as well. Not quite sure. You have to remember CS these guys are on top of there game. They never made excuses.

Chris my boat runs pretty good for what it has. I do not think I run better than you guys lets face it we have no clue what your boat will run with all the changes you made till you go down the track. The chevy pontiac thing is a huge plus to the pontiac. I no what a pontiac can make remember I have on also. Ask Miller about the pontiac thing he will tell you it can be a huge difference. I think we are pretty evenly matched so it will be a good race. What wears me out is the river boat raceboat thing.

The motor is ready to go and I just relocated the diverter handle so I can actually reach it when I have the vest on. I just need to move the n2o button to the other side of the wheel.
I did find some damage to the mini bulkhead at the rear of my flase floor. Where it meets the bottom of the boat (inside) the glass has cracked so water is going up and under the floor. Already saw Todd and I am good to go for the weekend, but I just neet to make sure I keep it as dry as I can.
Also finally fixed the oil leak I have been chasing. So we will see if what you pointed out was the problem.

The Worlds Quickest PGJ "The Biz" ran a gear reduction box. Running a Schmidt motor that had to run upstairs in RPMs because it did not make the torque/power down low.
I wouldn't put one of those in CS19.
Now I know I know you are gonna say that Hicks doesn't run one. But he runs a 565 olds on the bottle. Even without the bottle he doesn't need one because of the torque his big motor makes.

Just a shot in the dark but could the gear box be working due to the fact that it is slowing the pump down to an RPM where it is more efficent while still letting the motor wind out to its peak power. Also does torque have that much of an impact on accelertion when you sitting at the same RPM all the way down the track?

I would think so if you are running 6500 all the way down the track with engine A and then you install engine B that makes another say 200 ft lbs of torque dont you think that the engine would gain rpm? It is like pulling a steep grade in your truck hauling a heavy load and all you can run is 3000 but then you crank the chip up to level 5 that offers another 150 lbs of torque and wala you are grabbin another gear and haulin the mail. Just my .02

it made ALOT of torque at a lower number, but the hp peak was way above that, way on the downslope of the torque curve. trying to run it at the "torque peak" number, it was a slug. had to run it near the hp peak, which was 8600 back in the day.
i think if you look at most of the engines built specifically for a jet boat, they aren't designed with the torque/hp curves that far apart. but if you were using a current state of the art prostock deal, you'd want the reduction gear for several reasons. head over heels still runs one with their reher morrison prostock engine, and they're the quickest pgj out there. even roeschen runs a gear with his schmidt comp motor.
jerry's engine isn't a 565 (it's a little smaller than that), and he hasn't run the bottle much at all for the past 5 years - doesn't have to.

The Worlds Quickest PGJ "The Biz" ran a gear reduction box. Running a Schmidt motor that had to run upstairs in RPMs because it did not make the torque/power down low.
I wouldn't put one of those in CS19.
Now I know I know you are gonna say that Hicks doesn't run one. But he runs a 565 olds on the bottle. Even without the bottle he doesn't need one because of the torque his big motor makes.Not to mention how light his boat is...and it's not the torque, it's the power. I keep tryin to tell yous guys...

I would think so if you are running 6500 all the way down the track with engine A and then you install engine B that makes another say 200 ft lbs of torque dont you think that the engine would gain rpm? It is like pulling a steep grade in your truck hauling a heavy load and all you can run is 3000 but then you crank the chip up to level 5 that offers another 150 lbs of torque and wala you are grabbin another gear and haulin the mail. Just my .02

Dont you think if you gained torque your peak hp and the rpm it makes it at would be higher? The pump if properly built to match motor a is basically like a dyno it will only alow the motor to pull to where the peak power is made. Now throw engine B at the same pump with more torqe and see what happends. I think it would be an interestin test to see what would happen.:confused: :confused:
