We found that when we were shopping for boats. We basically couldn't get a loan on a uaed Magic for anything the owners wanted to sell it for.
Look at a comparable year/equipped Howard or Advantage on NADA.

and goes faster with the same power.

I know so........Magics are over priced. They were the "in" thing for a while, thats why you see so many of them on the water. Now that resale value on boats has tanked...owners may have a hard time selling them for what they owe due to supply and demand. Lots of supply, very little demand right now. I guess if you have to sell to keep your house that you refi'd with to buy it, you will take what you can get. This was no attack on anyone personally, just an opinion.

2forceful, you wouldn't think Magic sold so many boats because they're good looking boats would you. People don't always buy things because they're more practical or a better value, there's a reason why certain items become so popular. Looking at the two deck boats in the picture I can tell you right away which one I'd buy, and that's not a personal attack on you or any Cheeta owner, just my opinion.;)

At the risk of sounding like I'm using a bit of intellect or
common sense, those that aren't familiar with the NADA
book will be surprised to find that they don't use "sales"
data to get their figures like the Kelly Blue Book does
for cars and trucks. They ask what the NEW price is and
they depreciate a certain percentage for each year. Always the same percent for all companies. In other words, they
depreciate a Bayliner at the same rate as a Skater, Schiada,
Magic, Conquest, DCB and Baja.
Years ago when selling Conquest deckboats I had a banker
call me and rip me a new one. I had taken a deposit on a
1994 Top Cat deckboat with a sales price of $60,000. He
was shocked to see that the book on it at the time was about $18,000 and he thought I should be ashamed!
2Forceful is absolutely correct. When you trade something
in, the NADA book is right there to be found and used. When buying a used boat, the NADA book instantly becomes lost and is never to be found. That's because it
has nothing to do with reality and their numbers are always low. The smart boat builders inflate their numbers
when submitting them to the NADA people each year!
Unfortunately, the banks use it as a depreciation guide
when doing loans.
As for the current market value of a 2003 Magic deck with
normal wear and tear and 496HO. It's worth whatever
someone will pay for it! My guess is around $70,000 to
$75,000. I currently know of 2 for sale, a 2005 for $85,000
and a 2006 for $90,000.

NADA is no where close to perfect but if you can price your boat within the guide you will have a better chance of selling it and or financing it these days. I see more and more for sale ads for boats that are using the NADA prices to help push the sell. the boat trader has prices going from 72k-90k for a 2003-2007 Magic Deck but that doesn't mean they are selling for that price, however i doubt you will see any of these guys dropping their prices down to the 40's....at least not this year.

That is exactly what we found when shopping. The problem with the asking prices of those almost new boats is the delta is what i would have to come up with for a down payment. We looked at a gorgeous '06 asking 114, and another asking 109, but the NADA on both was 81. The delta of 33 grand was about 30%, more than I wanted to pay as a down.
We also found that NADA didn't take into account nice upgrades, like stereo - the choice is CD, 2 speakers, or 4 speakers. Even cheap car stereo systems don't have only 4 speakers any more. Polished, powdercoated, or anodized hardware - not even listed as a possibility.
Those kinds of issues make the used market soft, IMHO, especially when combined with today's real estate market.

Spoken like you have a 496 in your ride. There are many differences in the boat.....not just the HP, speed, drive.... the hole shot for one..... the cruising speed with 8 adults on board.... you can actually break plane. :D :D
The sound is VERY unique..... besides the stereo.... trim tabs ...... all the way down to stainless steel rub rail.... Its not all about going fast I assure you. Im not going to dog anyone with the 496..... its a very good motor.... but i will say pop the hatch on mine.... its a whole new story.
