CHICAGO - H&R Block, which provides tax advice to millions of Americans, made an embarrassing confession on Thursday. It goofed on its own taxes.
The company, which is in the middle of its make-or-break season preparing other peopleĀ’s tax returns, said it had underestimated its own Ā“state effective income tax rateĀ” in previous quarters -- meaning it owes another $32 million in back taxes.
As a result, H&R Block said it would restate previously reported earnings going all the way back to 2004.

Sad story, my tax guy had a stroke and is in a coma. Been going to him for the last four years. He was awesome. I'm praying for him and his family.

A professional Tax Person with a fancy office and lots of staff:D
My dad scares me, he is an ex-hippy and does his own taxes.....one time he told me he figured he didn't have to pay the state, because the paid the feds and that is being taxed twice

Ditto. The same firm that does the businesses does our personals. He is worth his weight in gold.
My parents have a much smaller business (pool service) and do their own because they come from the school of "why pay someone for something I can do myself." I went to the school of "let the professionals do it, they know more than me." I know about history, health science and teaching. They know about tax code and law.
TurboTax is great if you just have general itemization, but we don't.

Exactly! And if you get the scary letter from the g-man, then they go to court for you. You don't have to try to explain your reasons, he/she does (as long as you have records to back up your reasons).
