Does anyone know anything about the boat being raised off the East jetty outside of Newport Harbor?
I walk to the beach in Corona del Mar everyday for lunch and noticed a salvage crew around 1/4 mile out a couple of weeks ago. Around a week ago, a boat started to surface. It's main deck finally reached the surface, but it's a very slow process. The locals say it's a $3 million dollar, 60 ft yacht. I can't find any news about it on the web though.

I wish.:D I just work there and live 17 miles away. No one I work with could possibly afford to live there. :( We are all aliens. :D

Jordy, are you coming out this weekend? If so, when you go passed the jetty, turn left and take some pics.:D

Wasn't there a story a while back of a boat that sunk off the jetty, and they were searching for a possible victim?

A few months back, a boat plowed into the West jetty from the West and it was destroyed. They searched many miles for the owner. :(
The boat they are raising now is intact.:)

Thanks for the link.:)
I'm guessing that it traveled or drifted a little ways before it hit the bottom. Even during the recovery, it has moved a few hundred yards while on it's way back up. Last week, it was well SouthEast of the East jetty and now it is around 50 yards.:)

just read about this in The Log. It said it happened Aug 11 and was a 60 foot vessel. Vessel Assist AND Sea Tow responded with pumps but could not save her. 700 gallon diesel spill. 4 initially "rescued" from sinking boat, the other two "reluctantly" left later. "The vessel sank, but the cabin was still above the water."

(Mis)spent my youth on the two jetties in Newport. That doesn't look like the jetty off of CdM State Beach (Big Corona).

And I was wondering where that strap is going to? There's no access for a crane out there.
