Have not been in that setup, but I did talk with Bob Teague after the DCB Regatta and he said the boat did not like to run under 120. Not in a bad way it is just that the boat took off right to 120 and cruised. He said he ran it a bit north of 150.:)

I was in a 36' Eliminator Daytona with twin 900 Poker motors....Bob Leach at the wheel, the Bullhead Bully was on board with us, 135+ at Lake Mead. It was kinda' rough and it was a memorable ride to say the least.

I drove a 368 Skater to 152 last year. You'll never ride/drive a more stable boat at speed.
Bob T's 32' probably doesn't handle well at low speeds with 6's that is why he likes the 120 mark. I know somebody that rode with him and he had to get out of it at 140 because the boat was getting out of shape do to boat wakes. That's the trade off in a narrow west coast boat.

It was the old 747 a friend of mines boat and it was the only surviving one that rudy made that was a tunnel v bottom 1500+hp.

128 in a 29' DCB, then drove same boat to 90mph. ( Thanks Glenn)
But while it was fast it wasn't scary fast like 113 in a buddies California Performance Tunnel. Nothing like hitting 90 and have the driver ask if your ready! Nitrous is a beautiful thing!

Theres a time and place to do 140 150. Skaters are #1 on the water and #1 for spinouts and rollovers, not from the boat itself , but from overconfident drivers. I would ASSUME Bob is an excellent driver, sounds like he knows his limits.

It was back in the day.
18' Sanger flat w/twin turbo big block.
We were running 30% over in the V-drive; top gear in the Turbo 400 was 1:1, we were spinning a 2-blade 15" pitch prop at 7500 RPM. (14lbs of boost).
The boat went through the lights at needles family drags once at 103 on 7 pistons. So... i'm going to assume it was over 100.
Seriously; back in the day... Like, this was in 1978!

Probably been 100+ quite a few times with various skiers over 25 years although 80's & 90's are much more the norm regardless of what they tell you. ;) That's still quite fast on a water ski going over bumps n shit.
Only the top skiers will run 100+ for any length of time. Parker is very fast first lap as were many of the lake races when the water was good.

145 in a Nor Tech 43 supercat with 1075's and it seemed slow compared to 125 in a race prepped 19 stv river rocket with a 380 hp s3000.

Last week as a passenger in my 30 Daytona with Arneson ASD 7's and 1050hp, my mechanic friend drove it to 144 at 6000 rpm, felt like it would pull 7000 but we are still in early testing stage. Props are way too small but it felt solid and handled flawlessly. They are merc 16 x 35 five blade merc cnc
Last season I was a passenger in the same mechanics own 1997 32 Skater with twin 950hp mercs and six drives at 145. It feels fast in boats this length but handling was great

i've been 152 mph as a passenger with Jim Wilkes driving an Eliminator Daytona. Not real fun being a passenger.
speed is nice but who's got a boat that accelerates quickly?
I've driven my 19' Ultra Shadow 127 mph but that's not nearly as fun as how quickly i can get there.
It'll run the 1/4 mile in 8.7 seconds and i'm working on knocking that time down several tenths in the next month or so.

Fastest Top Speed for me: about 155 mph in Byron Ashleys Nortech called
Phat Cat.
Fastest in my boats: In 1997 driving my 19' Eliminator Flattie with a blown
468 with about 700 hp. don't know how fast, but it would leave my Schiada
at 105 mph hard. I have the videos! 2 blade 15" X 11 1/2" with 39 gears
spinning about 6800! Maybe 108 or 110 mph?
Sitting backwards: About 1995 or 1996, a friend of mine sat backwards
face to face with another friend in the above mentioned flattie while we
raced "Bling" in his 24' Eliminator Daytona with a Carson Brummett turbo
motor. It was a rough day and my buddy just sat there with a big grin
on his face and took it.
The 21' Schiada in my avatar runs between 103 mph and 105 mph with
a blown and innnercooled 588 inch Chevrolet making about 1000 with
a 14-71 on top. 39 gears and a 3 blade 15" X 12" Tom Black Precision Prop.
The Racecrafters 25' Talon with 1500hp in it with a #6 drive. Somewhere
in the mid 20's and it got there quickly. Coolest boat I've ever driven.
It's for sle again too!!!!! $85,000 with fresh pontiac headed engine, #6 drive,
Huge Lysholm screw blower,. etc etc etc.
I love going fast!

What's the fastest you been while seated backwards and watching a skier? And who was the skier?
When I went to Australia 2 years ago for the Southern 80 ski race, I was trusted to ride in Mike Dominguez' "Blown Budget" at 114 mph on GPS, pulling TWO skiers, Brett Dominguez and Jamie Oliver. Part of the time I was standing up to see them over the spray from the boat!
Unfortunately, the V drive broke during the race, when it appeared that they were poised to set a new record.
