you know what i mean, sure it was your pride and joy back them but nothing compared to the dollars shelled out for our boats today, when you would come ashore and beach it,rocks or not, wipe it off, why, its just gonna get wet again,20 hour service, just check the oil and lets go.memories.

I would rather have a $2000 boat then a $200000 boat... honestly the 1st boat I every bought was the best boat I ever owned... then again I was a freshmen in college and it got me more tail then any thing else.

I took better care of my first boat the 90% of the people do with their high dollar ones. You would NEVER see my boat beached and it was always polished. Always

I never wipe mine down either ....the dust and dirt keeps the UV Rays from fading my Flake :D
When I sit in the seats with wet shorts @ Jet Fest tommorow ,my azz is going to get caked with mud  :D

My first was a POS, and so is my second. :D but while others are stressing on tracking dirt in there boat I could care less. Besides my POS is fast enough to out run most of the high end ski, and wake boats :D

My dads boat:
1977 DiMarco T-deck runner bottom with a 454. $7000. Ran 95 mph.
It was not a POS, it was super clean, although it was orange metal flake!

my friends dad had a 26' bayliner just like the little ones but huge. he let us rally that thing for days on end on the big weekends when we were like 16. the beating that was put on that boat was harsh but I am thankful his dad did not have a nice boat that we couldn't use. I honestly can say that we had more fun on that huge POS than i have had on any boat. and any one that says bayliners don't pull chicks is dead wrong. well not good chicks but none the less when your 16 does it matter:D

POS? Maybe by todays standard., I suppose its all about perspective. I like to think of it as vintage hot rod. Same as now, never beached on any rocks and always kept clean and well maintained. I like to take good care of my things and those that belong to others regardless of what the dollar value is.

Yep every time I go to the lake I am forced to come to grips with the reality of still owning not one, but two POS boats:(
But I don't care cause I have a good time every weekend on the lake:D

Tom do you remember when you stepped up how much friendlier everyone became to you knowing that you were at least a semi baller, or at the very least had some home equity baller status? ;)

Oh yes, I remember it well.
I'll never go back to depending on personality as my only likeability factor again. Now that I think about it, it's a wonder I wasn't banned from this site for flagrant poverty and complete lack of materialism.

I remember my first boat well. Purchased a 1987 Stratos VT 200 with a Mariner 220 EFI for $6600 back in 1991. The hull was what is referred to as a Mod VP (I believe)....tunnels cut into a vee hull. It ran great(low 70's)and served us well for 2-3 years. Had next to no repairs or issues and sold it for $6100. Those were the days!
I guess it would seem like a pos now but compared to what my current rig costs to run/insure I could definately get used to low/no cost boating!

I remember going to the boat show with HeavyD in the 80's and telling him I wanted a pontoon boat. He was So embarrased he would hide in the corner till I came down off those things. Now HE wants one like all theother retroverts.
