Curious to hear ideas of how to get the proper pattern for a set of transom plates. I've done one set before and they turned out good, but it was very time intensive and Im curious to see how others approach the problem...

I used a piece of 1/8" masonite to make the template. It was a whole lot easier to fit it than the aluminum along with having it in my garage. I never did finish the plate since I went with a deep aluminum transom adaptor.

Make you template from cardboard, this will get you real close. Transfer it to the aluminum, leaving some extra material, for trimming, as you fit it.

i use file folders or poster board and tape get it real close.. add some pieaces and tape them on to close up any odd gaps then transfer that to another pieace and cut agian till you get a clean fit then transfer it to your alumn.
